What a bullshit console generation this has been.

I still believe that this has been the worst console generation yet.

Vita was the best hardware this cycle. PS2.5 graphics on-the-go with dat OLED. :lawd

Dat 3DS library tho
I think the 3DS's library is alright. Very few outstanding titles from Nintendo while great third party games are far few and between. Then again there are some titles I've kinda missed out on, so I might give them a look.

DS has worse 1st party titles in many areas (at least on the more traditional side of Nintendo) but the third party games were plentiful and excellent.

I had to wipe the salty sheen off of my monitor.

CoD killed Halo and Microsoft literally paid Activision to do it.

CoD killed Halo when CoD 4 came out.

Don't give a fuck what anyone says, Halo multiplayer has always felt like janky shit that never controlled well. It definitely takes skill to get good, but it feels like dolls trying to murder each other with pellet guns. CoD changed console shooters like Halo did, it was the next step in making shooters feel more natural on consoles. CoD4 was the tipping point, it felt much smoother and fast paced compared to Halo 3.

Counter Strike has never controlled well either when it comes to movement, but you can kill people in a second or two with controlled bursts of fire. movement jankiness + precise aiming + instant death has always equaled satisfaction. Jankiness + okay precision + battle attrition has always felt like shit.

Titanfall feels fucking great to play, but it wasn't baked long enough. There needed to be more.

No, please. Be a ten year cycle. :cody So I can keep my GTX 760 for another few years.
I was just looking at things the other day and figuring that if I finally updated my C2D E8400 to the new i5-6600 or whatevs (with matching mobo/RAM obv) I could probably coast well into 2018 if I wanted to for like $300-350. (I had been thinking about targeting the next GeForce wave. And might still.)

Only thing lacking really is the ram on the card I have is only 1GB, but I barely can tell any performance difference even when putting the textures up to high/very high. (Some "ultra" settings I do notice.) And I got it in 2012 for like $130.

Nobody should be surprised that the PS4 and Xbone are struggling to keep up with the PC.  There was never any illusions here - both Microsoft and Sony essentially spec'd a low end PC, a low end PC in 2013.  In 2015, it is ancient.  In 2018, it will struggle to run low taxing PC games on the lowest settings.  At the time nobody cared because there was an INDIE GAMEZ REVOLUTION and nobody was going to bother to push the weak specs of these consoles.  Considering how this generation will likely last as long as the previous, fanboys better get used to the idea that the consoles aren't going to offer a PC level experience.  Fortunately publishers not named Blizzard or Valve can't eat off of the PC alone so they will likely work with downgraded specs so console ports won't look entirely embarrassing.  Funny thing is that the NX will probably be even weaker than both the PS4 and the Xbox One.

Also I agree that Halo doesn't mean much these days.  The Halo 2 and 3 launch events were pretty big news but it has been a decline since then.  I can't blame the watering down of the franchise (with Halo Wars, OSTD, and Reach) nor can I blame it on the fact that a bunch of nerds hijacked the story so it turned from a fun multiplayer game to some scifi crap.  COD just eclipsed the game as a multiplayer shooter.  Halo 5 is barely relevant these days and it has nothing to do with Destiny.  Halo died when COD4 came out, whenever that was, Microsoft is just insistent on fucking the corpse for a few more games until Halo 6 comes out, they purge 343, and we never hear about Halo again, unless you want to see some Rule 34 Cortana nudez.

I was actually surprised during the Steam Machine Sale a week or so back how much they were packing into the $300 (on sale) model, especially considering the size of the box. Thing would easily keep pace with/surpass the PS4 on most titles.

Those things might actually be more viable than I thought they'd ever be. The lower end ones certainly sold out fast in that sale however many machines that may have been. You know the manufacturers probably aren't taking losses on them like consoles.

Well, for one they aren't charging the MS tax. I dunno if Valve is giving them money to install their flavor of Linux (CONFLICT OF INTEREST IN GNU/UNIX LICENSE! HEY-OH!), or not. But that saves them $150 a pop per whatever MS license fee?

I think they all ship with SteamOS currently, I assume partly just because it's simplest or maybe Valve is offering incentives, but some of them I saw let you have them also install a Windows dual-boot for like $25-50. I want to say Alienware was at one time offering other Linux distros as well, I assume as part of parent company Dell's pro-linux thing.

There's probably something with those Steam Controllers though which I didn't even think of. Maybe Valve is spotting them for it right now and will charge later or something.

These were the two that Syber sold out of during the sale:
Quote
Syber Steam Machine I - Was $499; Now $299
Intel Core i3-4160 Processor
500 GB SATA III HDD
4 GB DDR3 Memory
NVIDIA GTX 750 1 GB GDDR5

Syber Steam Machine P - Was $789; Now $589
Intel Core i5-4460 Processor
1 TB SATA III HDD
8 GB DDR3 Memory
NVIDIA GTX 960 2 GB GDDR5
Hopefully the manufacturers won't completely do what is normal in the PC universe and just keep updating those specs and keeping the same level tier prices. If like in a year or so they could sell that P for close to the I's sale price rather than making a new lower end i3, etc. box...they could probably sell literally thousands of them!

(Unless Intel starts making i3 quad cores.)

EDIT: (Actually, that raises another thing to keep in mind, the performance of Intel's graphics chip is getting better and better with each wave, they're getting close with the next one looking like it might start to run last gen titles maxed out at 720p/60...they might not even have to put separate graphics cards in the low end versions of these by the end of this generation.)

Even if that's the case: $500 + $200 for a graphics card is still wayyyy better than the consoles out there currently. It's going to be interesting how Steam machines are handled in regards to the next-gen jump.

Are the integrated graphics on desktop processors massively better? My laptop has a hd 5000 series iGPU and runs last gen games not much worse than a last gen console according to benchmarks. I wouldn't game on a laptop though but I'm getting the bug to build a first desktop.

I was talking to a coworker today about PC parts and was amazed at how relatively cheap it was. Considering how PC games drop in price it wouldn't be much more expensive than a game console but you get to play the game as it was designed FPS/graphics wise. Plus it's the only reason on the horizon to get a 4k TV.

Skylake's high end was a fairly decent jump:

4.2Ghz is the default speed.

I believe in the Kaby Lake generation, the GPU is supposed to take up most of the die (if it already isn't there) because it's going to have a more comparable to separate GPU number of compute units/shaders or whatever it is Intel calls them. Plus it can use the CPU cores. The current generation's top ones only have like 72 or something, while like the GTX 950 has 768.

Here's Skylake:

It's already at half the die basically. And it's not like the CPU cores are getting any worse, or any bigger.

Yeah, there was quite a bit initially. Not necessarily here, but in the media and on places like NeoGAF. At some point, the sheer amount of of victims coming forward and telling similar stories overwhelmed the doubters and it's pretty much just an accepted fact that he's a rapist scumbag.

Much, much, much more. Cosby was everybody's favorite TV dad and had enormous cache with the public. People are still out there defending him based on how much they liked the Cosby show.

Yeah, only a couple months ago I was reading a guy (on a skeptics message board, no less) still trying to do some incredible mental gymnastics to dismiss the thirty plus accounts that have emerged about Cosby. There was a lot of goalpost moving at the beginning because allegations were old and some anonymous. As far as the GAF thread about Deen go, I'd say the doubt was pretty short lived with the written accounts from two other performers coming on the heels of the tweet from Stoya.

You know, I'll give them that: maybe the climate has in fact changed and maybe it did affect Tecmo decision. I'm okay with that if it means companies will think twice before including cynical stealth pedo shit in their games. I really doubt Japanese studies will be more popular than they are now with all the anime fans that flowed within last 20 years ? Mandarin I could see getting real popular...

Anyway you shouldn't be deterred to learn Japanese because of that but it's good to think ahead about what use it will be to you. Learning it because vidyagamez is often a bit of a pis-aller.

Where was it said Japanese will be more popular? Japanese will be useful in the next few decades due to their economic situation. As Japan's economic power dwindles, less people will likely be wanting to learn Japanese. Non-Japanese people who speak the language may then become more valuable. Even then, Japan still has a fairly large economy now. So it's plenty useful.

Usefulness != popularity, especially in the realm of language.

Video games is a pretty good reason to learn a language. Any reason is a good reason. So long as you stick with it.

KT thread runs from Social Justice Boogeymen to defending underage looking characters like clockwork. Can't just shut the fuck up about playing your shitty fanservice title with awful justifications, nah. Gotta go up to bat for your thousand year old (or 20 something year old I swear!!) loli looking character. Just sit down and wank if you're so inclined, no need to have a pissing contest in justifying your shitty tastes, no one cares in the end.

I don't try to justify any of my scust-worthy gaming/anime tastes. Achieve enlightenment with me, brehs. :aah

The ever increasing lulz of how gamers reactions to SJWs make them all the more relevant and gain support/traction from more mainstream individuals.  :sabu

yeah someone posted previously about Sunny being hot in MGS4 and she's like 8 or something

edit: yep...guess who it was -- http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=113867782&postcount=22

According to the Metal Gear Wiki she's 11 in MGR so it fits perfectly  :jared

I once googled metal gear solid porn gif (just to annoy and spam a friend with it I swear), and one of the first things that popped up, not even filtered by google was Sunny porn.  :beli

Google filtering isn't worth shit. I searched something innocuous for Mass Effect ("femshep shadowbroker") and still got hit with three foot alien dick with the safe search on.

Google image search game related stuff or gaming characters and don't expect the worst brehs.

How long you been on the internet anyway.

We all learned this over a decade ago with Sonic.
