I personally loved the Metroid Prime combat but it takes like an hour to get why it's good. In MP games you don't have to aim because of lock on targeting but instead you dodge everything being shot at you which makes sense with a single player game where you have no allied AI to draw fire. Dodging around and timing your shots while monitoring your health, missiles, and beam type is tense especially when you have multiple enemies and some of them require switching visors to lock on to them.

Dodging slow moving projectiles used to be a thing in FPS games. Then real guns took over.

Yeah my point is that you really have to have an unusually specific view of what makes an FPS enjoyable to knock it for not rewarding twitch aiming skills. It's like if someone said that Kate Upton doesn't have a thin enough waist or that the original Shelby GT 350 was too ostentatious or something. Maybe those can be actual flaws but you're missing something beautiful by focusing on them.

My biggest gripe with neogaf pretending to be a site where people can talk about things is that 99% of people think they are giving a TED talk and when they step off the podium they start detective posting and not listening to each other. Actually I sort of agree with the criticism he layed out. Most of the times I've played people don't even seem to read the base card. They just go with the most offensive answer, no matter how poorly it matches the base card.

Not gonna lie, had that once and it was a good laugh but all said and told it is the baby version of any occupation akin to consequences / exquisite corpse which can be played for free and with actual limitless creativity. There is also no real competitive or win state. The novelty wore thin halfway through the only time I played it. Congrats to the designers on monetizing the shit out of that, I guess.

Last night I was reading a book discussing older Japanese PC games and the subject of lolicon came up. From the book, lolicon initially got its popularity due to the whole 'pubic hair censoring' issue in Japan - it would actually be less legal to show an of-age girl with pubic hair than loli. (of course, that disappoints me since y'all know my love of the au naturel look by now) And those fanservice Japanese games have been around forever, just they were almost exclusively on PC and would hardly ever get stateside release (there was Knights of Xentar and some of the Rance games iirc). Now, the fanservice games are more visible due to the proliferation of the Internet and the fact many of them sell better in the west than Japan, so more get localized.

I switched one of my sites over to HTTPS this year. Wasn't trivial but wasn't super hard either.

The biggest bitch was the images. If you have user-generated content and want to switch to HTTPS that's where your issues are going to be. Mixed content warnings errrrrywhere.

I drew a line in the sand and manually forced all images to be served over HTTPS or break, which fixed the issue but caused a small outcry. Still, better safe than unsafe. Thankfully Imgur, Giphy, et al all support HTTPS too.

50 g of sugar is pretty ambitious given the state of food insecurity in the U.S. and the low information consumer. I don't hit 60 g per day every day but it's not an impossible event either and I'm way too involved in my nutritional intake (especially with how much about it I don't know and how much I want to fulfill being #borntodie).
