For International Women’s Day, we had a speaker come talk to us about women in the workplace, and only a handful of people showed up, all but one of them women, and none of them in senior leadership or even design. Certainly there was no incentive for the people who needed to attend to pay any attention at all. I was disappointed at the turnout, until I heard the speaker. She told us that she hated other women, that she enjoyed working with men because they would do things for her. I asked her her opinions on getting men more involved (gesturing to the poor turnout), and she recommended telling men that they should care about improving their dating pool. The blowback from those that attended was pretty justified. I’d hoped they would fix the problem, but next year they just didn’t do anything at all for Women’s Day.

He helped to crank the war machine, regardless of whatever nobility he earned. It's great that he refused orders to kill Jewish prisoners, but what would have happened to them if the side he did his best to help win had won in the end? You can't have it both ways there.

That said, it would have been great if we had the chance to peer into his brain after the war. I don't expect much beyond "I really liked being a soldier" clad in "I wanted to help the German people", but still.

About a month ago I was at bluenotes and there was a pile of Christmas looking sweaters in a pile not distinctly separate or anything to imply that they we're separated by gender and I didn't find my first choice in my size so I grabbed another one and although the employees saw me trying it on and noticed I asked for help getting my size they didn't mention it.

The thing that the problem is not really whether Rommel was a less or more FU asshole general than any other historical figure or if deep down he was more of a tragic figure than a villain, it's that the horror of the Nazi regime still looms large and elicit a very strong response. In a century from now, the name will have faded away in that abstract space that is the ancient past and people will perhaps regard Hitler as we now view Genghis Khan. In absolute terms it doesn't make a lot of sense, but that's what context and cultural revelancy is. It's all a very fascinating and complex discussion but really I don't think it takes a genius to maybe consider it might be a tad insensitive to name a German Shepherd (A brand with some baggage as far as its image go) after a Nazi Germany general. At the very least, if you want to do that, you better be ready to own it (which is the contrary of probing temp. on GAF).

I still think it's weird gamers want WWII shooters or on another a return to "basics" for all their franchises. I big part of why all these things changed and games like UT and Quake became outdated is because the skill ceiling needed to compete became too high. Something similar has happened/is happening to SC2. Subtle but meaningful changes are important. Again though gamers are fickle bitches and if you widen the gap enough they still eat it up.

I replayed Gen 1 shortly before X/Y came out. Still a very fun game to be honest.

I still haven't played X/Y or Gen-6 in general because I have yet to finish Gen-5/Black 2. I got burned out redoing that region's badges with WHOOO~~~ NEW areas. I've been saying I'd go back but I keep putting it off.

Gen-1 would bring me back to Pokemon, but given it can't trade-up to Gen-3+ there's very little reason to be hyped outside of the wifi-trading ability.
