Much to my regret, I plan on picking up 14 AND 15 this year to play them. I haven't bought a new FF since original 13 so I have really, really low expectations given the past year of news on 15. But I in no way, shape or form, have any real expectations for the franchise any longer except to be a teenager targeted mish mash of hogwash or 30 year old targeted nostalgia depending on the game of your choosing. I will also be purchasing 7 remake. I'm open-minded, I'll give them a chance. They're already on one strike, so whether or not any of these games will be two or three has yet to be seen but it's a huge possibility.
Not liking FF or not thinking FF is good isn't an edgy opinion. especially in your 30's as you reevaluate the media you once consumed. I have the memories tucked nicely in my heart, though. But I don't think it's edgy to think the series is no longer for you anymore as you age. That is just reality.
