Nope, Capcom is at fault here. Of course people that play Street Fighter for competitive reasons are fine with paying $60 at launch, its the next big thing competitively and Capcom is funneling money for tournies to Street Fighter V. Street Fighter V could be $99 or $199 and people playing it competitively would probably bite at that price.
Here's the thing, competitive games aren't $60. Look at all the Esports games, DOTA 2, LoL, free. Counter Strike Global Offensive, $20 or $15 and there's sales for it all the time. Call of Duty is $60 every year, and doesn't have that big of a competitive community, but you get a campaign and co-op shit in every single CoD for the past four or so years.
If this is a game that caters to one audience and one audience alone, the game's price should reflect that. Instead people are treating Capcom like its a charity and that Street Fighter V is holding the FGC's relevance hostage.
Casuals being at fault doesn't even make sense. Are they supposed to buy something they don't like just cuz?
The reason why SF4 got away with being barebones is it was the first mainline Street Fighter game in 9 years, the hype was there that Street Fighter is returning. The follow up to Street Fighter 4 Ultra being so lackluster is a huge fuck up by Capcom.
