If we use Google Trends, while NeoGAF has a ways to go down, SA is only 6-7% of their peak traffic. SA seems like it could fold at any minute. NeoGAF probably has a good 4-5 years left of decline.
Lowtax has made about $1.9 million off of registrations alone. That doesn't include the money's he's made off of people buying avatars/custom titles and money he gets from ad revenue.
Of course, SA could definitely shut down soon, but Lowtax would have cleaned up nicely by then.
He would have, but he burned his money on a huge McMansion, a big sports car and a strip mall office block for SA LLC during the good times, then ended up with two nasty divorce settlements through the years and not enough income to support his operation during the bad times. A lot of the reasons that SA is in the state it's in is because Lowtax didn't care about what was actually driving revenue (It wasn't the first page which also paid it's contributors fuck all) and the hall monitors he did pick for the forums ended up driving everyone funny away out of spite or jealousy. The EVE Corp burning down and his internet spat with Shmorky was the icing on the cake because now hundreds of repeat users have no reason to be using the forums anymore (Even though Shmorky is creepy af and should never be allowed near kids)
If SA shuts down. He's basically done as an internet entrepreneur. Which is why it's so amazing he's doggedly holding onto SA when he could just pawn it off to Scripps or some investment co willing to drop a little more than what the site is worth and just cash out and retire.

Wasn't Shmorky. Shmorky is just a creepy guy who made "diaperfur" porn before, became transgender, started going crazy around people using the "right" pronouns around "xe" and "xir" (At the time) and went apeshit that his "Real" voice was broadcast on a stream once instead of the feminine voice he puts on for broadcasts. He had a falling out with Lowtax and moved out. Dude's just a super creeper but he had a huge tumblr audience that tuned into his SA posts and videos who disappeared when he did and just followed him to his Patreon.
There was an actual convicted pedophile on mod staff modding the TV forum (Aatrek) where mods knew about it and ignored it till Something Sensitive doxxed him and a former D&D/LF mod (Zeitguiest) was found to be actively sharing child porn while posting on the site. People quitting out because the mod staff repeatedly showed they were happy on culling "Mod Sass" as well as spiteful banning of posters getting too popular and who didn't toe the mod line but actual bullshit like that was ignored.
Evilore's really not had the hyper drama that drove people away from SA outside of some industry "Insiders" turning out to be not very good at it (lol Pete Dodd) so his income isn't declining on the level of SA because there's no massive reasons to leave yet other than Lore keeps fucking up on ads, his crusade against Adblock, some of his mod staff being fucking atrocious at their job and Neogaf rapidly becoming the punchline to most industry jokes about shitty, entitled manbaby fanbases and the sterotype of all hostile fanboys (Particularly sony fanboys).
