Lime implied someone was a "House N*****" once during the height of the Gamergate shitshow, even caught a pathetically short ban for it, so I wouldn't put it past her.

Steve answered immediately when I asked about Zhuge in this thread

I guess this whole fuckery fest is a little tougher to clear up  :lol

Meh, I answered that one because I had posted the only public-facing statement about that, and since you asked what happened I thought I'd link it. But even there the pushback sort of reminded me why it's a bad idea to be GAF Mod Person here. I've said before that I joined this place years before I became a mod on GAF, and my role in reading/posting here isn't to represent the moderation staff.

Secondly, what's to clear up? Some people here hate the site. Others may like it overall or just specific aspects of it while simultaneously having legitimate (or illegitimate) gripes. People want a place to vent, and they're free to do so here. Even if I did want to roll up my sleeves and type up a response explaining all of our actions that would just be met with TL;DR response gifs, I'm not sure if there's anything even remotely productive I could do. And I don't mean that in a bitter "you guys aren't worth my time" sense, but just in an honest "is there any explanation I could type that you would actually want to read?" sense.

To the extent that I read this forum and post, I'd really rather just be a Bore poster than a GAF ambassador. So with that said, let's all just agree that GAF's moderation is awful.

No, no, they aren't. Barely any of the YAS QUEEN regulars were eligible to vote in 2008, they came of political age with 2012.

For like five years the only ban I got was a 48 hour one for making a "too soon" joke in some thread where tons of people got cleaned out for the same thing. (I might have caught some shrapnel from the NBA-GAF murder but I didn't notice it, the other was my first ever GAF ban so I remember it.) The last year or so I've posted less than ever (outside of a community thread) but gotten banned more for the same stuff I've always posted. :lol
Bottom line is fuck them if they can't take a joke.  Dennis was around more than long enough for it to be clear when he was being serious or not to anyone who regularly read the forums.
hey have their protected list and maybe know of some "high profile" friendly trolling but that is probably limited to a select few.
For the "known posters" it depends on who you draw and what they know. Your reputation can help you out, but it can also pull you down unexpectedly.

Like how whatshisface was almost always protected for a while for his bad joke/puns to start off threads, but other people would get whacked for them.

It's how a handful of mods can publicly laugh about me posting 75% facetiously and/or even encourage it, how some mods can leave it when I post a thread asking if Ouija boards are legit because of a 700 Club segment and others instantly close "serious" threads with the potential for actual discussion just because I posted it, and at the same time another mod can come along and ban me for endless unfunny "trolling" when I'm actually replying 96% seriously to a thread and made only three posts. (Which makes the ban funny and why I actually posted about it in here.)

Then there's Steve Youngblood, who just roles his d20 dice and communes with the fellow Dark Lords to determine your fate.

There's way too many mods and too many threads to try and figure out some kind of grand agenda to it, I'm sure the mods discuss certain bans, but most probably don't even get noticed and/or can be justified enough that even a friendly mod won't overturn it. I think that's how you can get a "new-ish" mod who just sees somebodies ban record and perms them, they don't get why PD or Dennis has that ban record compared to somebody who actually does post gross problematic and toxic garbage.

You get got, you got got. :yeshrug

That said, when Devo and Mumei and etc. were running their second wave social studies warrior game, it did seem like you had more slack to push back against them, especially when they gave you some. Liu Kang was only 90% as instantly nasty and dismissive as he is now. And everybody seems to be operating like that more and the entire conversation is like the fucking Cardassian Justice System. There's no counter-balance like Mumei in the current group. They and another poster I can't remember the name of seemed to calm down a lot of those second wave threads even as everyone else circled around all "MUMEI MORE BOOK SUGGESTIONS PLZ THX" and "READ MUMEI'S LIST THEN COME BACK TO POST!" The blood god didn't always get blood.

But I mean, same shit on gaming side happens in cycles mostly based around the consoles' cycles, same shit with all the various groups, there was a period years ago one playoffs where NBA-GAF lost its damn mind until five or six posters faded away. Large forums get like that and the pace and tone of threads gets absurd and probably part of why I shitpost here more and more along with not really disliking anyone here.

That and the "likes" feature.

I think more importantly, the concept of police/sheriffs/etc. existed centuries before "industrial capitalism" as commonly understood.

Quote
Before the nineteenth century, there were no police forces that we would recognize as such anywhere in the world.
I'm pretty sure Paris created a "modern" police force in the early 18th century or so. London was later, but I think it started to implement the framework of the same thing before the 19th century.

The military/mercenaries/etc. were often hired for similar purposes prior, but one key thing was you didn't have the same urban* population situation before feudalism faded away so they were needed more for periodic riots or unrest, not everyday crime which was handled in other manners.

Neogaf is a website where all the content is user generated. You can't "hate GAF", you can hate the turns it makes, making a certain subset of population totally comfortable and cozy, while you try to outcast another subset daily. This is not a conspiracy theory, this was leaked and confirmed to be the case. This current moderation is what many probably hate. Hell, i've been contacted through PM on GAF supporting my claims on a few occasions, but they wouldn't dare to post because they're scared of a possible ban. That's sad. It's sad when there's no warnings from moderation but a cold shoulder snarky remark about what they believe you did or meant. Sometimes to your surprise, someone else did exactly the same you did on the same page and he doesn't get banned (case in point, TV show thread of GoT). GAF moderation in my opinion is awful because they overstep the boundaries of the logical presence of a moderator to threaten users. Moderation takes sides in conversations and arguments. It's like a disease that at first it only gave you itches, and now is about to necrotize a limb. And I honestly don't have any pet peeve with some of the moderators, you included. But there's a few who obviously enjoy shutting down conversations.

What you do in GAF stays in GAF, I can understand that completely.

I doubt that many here hate GAF. I certainly don't. If I did I wouldn't have bothered posting there for so long.

I think many are lamenting the fact that the site has become so narrow-minded with a small faction of posters and perhaps some mod allies have succeeded in completely taking over control of allowed speech and opinions. And very obviously trying to get rid of anyone who disagrees by banning them (mods) or implying over and over again that posters are bigots and should be banned (users).

Remember when RiskyChris was seen as a joke by everyone and banned (by EviLore or a mod?)

A few short years later the mod team and a section of GAF adopted a mindset even more extreme than RiskyChris. And systematically started getting rid of posters who didn't.

Yeah he was on The Next Level and he was in his 20s then.  Fucker might be in his 40s now.  Which makes him all the more pathetic.  I'm guessing his source of sanctimonious rage comes from working a dead end job that he's had for many years and coming to the crippling realization that none of his dreams or ambitions came to fruition.

I just wanted to say thank you to Dennis.

After my last few posts, he messaged me and we got chatting. He initially requested I didn't post this information, but I asked him again if I could and he agreed to it.

Basically, I'm sure you remembered that I was joking about him buying me a new 1080 graphics card as we used to roll together in PC threads.

Well, he's not doing that, but he's going to send me the parts of his current PC when he upgrades. I didn't even ask him to - he just offered me!

This is the type of man who Dennis is. A genuinely honest, upfront, and decent bloke.

The Neogaf moderation team are absolute idiots for not realising when they have a user who could do so much for the community, and ban him because he doesn't say everyone is a racist, sexist, cheeseburger hating, politically incorrect piece of shit.

I ask everyone in raising a beer towards Dennis on Friday night, wherever you are, and I would seriously consider adding him to the admin team here so he can implement whatever changes he thinks would be good and proper.

Thank you, Dennis. Thank you.

Like for any given meal in their home, or do they assimilate and use silverware?

Honest question.

When I moved to Tennessee from New Mexico they asked me if I rode a horse to school.   :doge  Most also thought it was part of Mexico, not the US.

at one point the annoyance with SFV hate threads was somewhat legit with every gaf bro feeling the need to post his own thread telling his Lifetime channel story about how missing arcade mode has turned him off a franchise he's been playing for "30 years" (i.e. played some SF2 like the rest of the world, then played some SFIV.)

now they just post that in every SFV thread, no matter how objectively correct the thread is.   The game's performance is pathetic and it'll take more than typical Japanese glacial pace to actually change the public perception of it.  It's possible that ship has long since sailed, given how quickly shit moves today.

The beef with SFV was never misplaced but it wasn't really voiced or debated correctly. Right off the bat, my idea or solution for the lack of content for SFV was to sell the game for $20 or $30, have the game be free to play with playable characters for non payers swapping out weekly. The issues SFV had at launch weren't fixable in the short term, the solutions for those grievances had to be immediate though.

SFIV wasn't some sort of heavy hitter in content either, but the expectations were completely different in 2009, and it being a sequel after almost a decade of rereleases and nostalgia grabs meant there would be hype no matter what.

SFV needed to be a careful and well executed game in every regard for it to be as successful as Mortal Kombat X or past Street Fighter games. What ended up happening is a functional game wrapped in mcdonalds bags and used surgical tape.

And let's not forget, Ultra SFIV on PS4 was fucking busted in hilarious ways when it originally launched. Capcom sorta shit the bed with handling this IP immediately after SFIV/Ultra peaked in competitive popularity.
OH!
