I'd....I'd like that.
Psychonauts is already essentially an adventure game. THe best part of the first half of the game is going around camp and talking to characters and listen to them say funny ass dialogue, just like in an adventure game. Stages like Lungfishopolis don't have great gameplay, but have excellent writing. The Milkman conspiracy is flat out adventure game trappings, with combining crap even. Then there's the theater stage which is pretty much a glorified puzzle anyways, so toss that in the adventure game bin too. The only real stand out platformer level is the Black Velvet stage, which is utterly fantastic. The Napoleon stage is, again, mostly puzzles and could totally work as an adventure game. Then there's the Meat Circus, which sucks.
Honestly, Psychonuats would work better as an adventure game than a 3d platformer and anyone whose played it knows it's more adventure game than 3d platformer anyways. It's where most of its roots are and where all of its positives come from, Black Velvet stage aside. In many ways, if pulled off right, it could be Day of the Tentacle level, because as we all know, Psychonauts is about going inside people's heads. Since the whole cast looks like they're getting equal prominence this time and not just Raz, it's likely to assume that we can play as all four of them. Stages where you have to flip between the four characters to solve the character's inner trauma could be....interesting.
Thinking about that actually got me excited for this game.

But we still don't know anything about it to get excited.
