Worst generation of gaming
last gen sucked until like 2010
took literally five years to get good
Huh?
I really can't fanthom what kind of games you guys like here and what constitutes a good generation.
I meanup until 2010 we already had...
Bayonetta, Devil May Cry 4, Lost Odyssey, Valkyria Chronicles, Resident Evil 5, Tales of Vesperia, Uncharted 2, No More Heroes, Gears of War 1/2, Halo 3, GTA4: Ballad of Gay Toney, Yakuza 3, Soul Calibur 4, Bionic Commando, Lost Planet, Mass Effect 1, Dragon Age, Ace Combat 6, Mirror's Edge, Modern Ware Fare/2, Crackdown, and really a lot more.
I don't know...I had plenty of good games to play before 2010. I certainly don't think it was sucking before 2010.
Ah, I fucked up. I meant beginning of the generation was good until it petered out into blahness.
I actually thought last generation got did okay at first. Good Japanese support. Mario Galaxy, Tales of Vesperia, Blue Dragon, Ninja Gaiden 2, Lost Odyssey, Resident Evil 5 were my highlights. Also, Uncharted 2, Saints Row 1 and 2, and Dragon Age for western games.
Then for me, nothing. Bayo I played on PS3 which wasn't the best version. On top of that, I'm not as big on it as others. I prefer NG. DMC4 was kinda disappointing at release but in hindsight an okay game. Valkyria was okay. No More Heroes was pretty mediocre and a poor follow up to Killer 7. I don't like Gears or Halo, GTA4 was one of the biggest gaming disappointments, Yakuza 3 not as good 1 or 2, didn't like Lost Planet, Crackdown bores me to tears, I don't like Mirror's Edge beyond trials, MW2 is good but for the most part FPS aren't my thing.
It took five years into the generation to get a Final Fantasy. Japanese support started to dry up. There was a big shift towards western games and first person shooters and I'm not big on either. Most of my favorite series were either dead (Suikoden), releasing disappointing entries (GTA, MGS) or imploded into mediocrity (FF).
DS and PSP were my main systems in those days. I don't exactly look at last generation wistfully as much as I do DS and psp, which for my tastes, were the real stars that generation. I was big on experimental or alternative games then as I am now and I got more of my genres of choosing on those systems.
2010 was also when Super Street Fighter IV came out and I played that dozens of hours.
The generation had a few good games but the momentum quickly dried up for a Japanese game fan. So maybe you're right and I'm remembering things wrong. I remember enjoying early generation then mid or late and by late I had mostly shifted to digital only besides the occasional game like Musou, Saints Row The Third, or GTAV. Even then, I look upon games like Spelunky, Hard Corps Uprising, and Bionic Commando Rearmed more fondly than retail.
Besides Street Fighter, my most fond console memory last gen was actually on the Wii because of Mario Galaxy.
Last generation made me a lapsed game fan. Still am outside of fighting games and mobile. Some games on ps4 look good. I bought a ps4 for fighting games and Japanese game support (mostly jrpgs but also Shenmue III) and nothing else.
I guess the heart of the matter is that I have specific tastes (mostly for Japanese games) that were not filled last gen. The fact it took so long and that Japan had no idea what they were doing made things tedious. One fuck up after the other last generation was.
