Belgium still have that weird form where they just find their feet and play like world beaters, but at the same time, they can be just lazy as fuck and get completely outclassed like the Italy game. Hazard was just sublime tonight, but he was a complete non-entity against Italy. Hungary were also really dire tonight and just lost their never as Hazard sliced through them. Against a Wales that are pumped as fuck and have that same x-factor with Bale. It's going to be tricky game for both sides.

Germany was just Germany. Ruthless and efficient at dismantling Slovakia. Ozil was a machine.

Also that entire France Vs Ireland game. What a match  :respect

Messi being outed as a fair weather player after all, proving he couldn't hack it anywhere but Barcelona. Mentally.

Man I really hate Ronaldo, but at least he's proven himself in 3 teams as a player.

Messi quit international football cuz he spanked a pen.

:comeon

And he's getting a pass. If Ronaldo did this after his shit game he'd be getting clobbered.

Double standards brehs.

If he had made the PK I could understand his frustration, but. . .

I always liked him over Ronaldo because he was a better sport. I’m sure he’s just frustrated right now and will reconsider later, but come on.

So what will English superfans excuse be now? That they brexited out of the competition?

Are there even England fans with that kind of delusion ? England has been the embodiment of a mediocre "top" national squad for at least 20 years now. Was it not for their 1966 WC title, they would have an absolutely dire record in major competitions. It's a pity because they never were short on decent players but :yeshrug

Also with regards to England, what I gathered from enthusiasts living there is that the state of youth development and the tactical culture of coach staff was fuckawful at all levels. The FA, which play second fiddle for the billions in the PL, had a very hard time enforcing any kind of grade or official qualification which is further compounded by how insular most of the "top" England born coaches currently are (Steve McLaren coaching FC Twente is the height of exotism and experience there). IIRC it was so bad that the number of people holding a coach degree was equal or below to what you found in the Czech Republic, despite having 5 to 6 times the number of registered players. I wouldn't expect their national squad to be able to constantly perform as long as this will be the case.

Oh yeah, when I switched to watching La Liga on the reg I was astounded by how small a skillset players brought through the English system actually had. About the only "high level" skill you can reasonably expect to find in that cohort is how to perform a studs out tackle.

breh they lost to a team with like 300K ppl and a couple dozen pro players. yeah the system is shite. but you cant blame it for this loss. them boys just played with no heart and no plan. it's what you get with a tottenham spine. believe in natural born bottlers brehs. add in the rest of the teams ego's being inflated to all hell and you get a scenario where the best effort you get out the whole lot is a 5 minute cameo from a teenager who popped onto the scene 4 months ago.

Yeah, I'm not blaming every misstep on that but I think it's not immaterial to the glass ceiling the England team is hitting in all major competitions. Should they have won the match, I'd have a lot of doubts they could beat France, let alone Germany or Italy.

He's not wrong but that's pretty funny coming from a guy who played almost 15 years in PL for somewhat overrated sides. Also hyperbolic to the extreme : PL may not be the best football in the world, there is some serious wage inflation and as discussed above it may have dreadful effects on the level of English players but their top sides aren't that atrocious either on the European stage bar Real/FCB and Bayern level of performance (I'd argue Ferguson's MU rank with those, in fact). Money is not all but still goes a long way in making monster teams.

Do you mean club football?

@Vomkriege: if we look at numbers in the last 11 years we get this:

CL finalists:
Spain: 8
England: 7
Germany: 4
Italy: 3

Eur Leag. finalists:
Spain: 8
Portugal : 4
England: 4
Ukraine: 2
Russia: 1
Scotland: 1
Germany: 1

not bad at all for pml in fact only serie a does better

Come on man don't say that

Poland is the dark horse in the quarters, but they got shaky Vs the Swiss in the last 15 minutes and the goal from Shaqiri really came down to Poland forgetting to keep their marking on point even though they were parking the bus. Once Shaqiri booted it it was unstoppable (And what a beautiful goal it was). And they were absurdly lucky not to go out in Extra Time with how well the Swiss kept up the pressure. Portugal's finding their feet again. Just took one moment of Ronaldo and the Portuguese took out Croatia.

Shit's too close to call. Especially since Portugal started figuring out not to let other teams not to push their buttons and made Croatia pay for that tactic. Poland need to attack hard and get some good feeds to Lewandowski while playing physical. Struggling it out for a 1-0 win isn't going to work if the team is tired as fuck by the end of the match.

I disagree, portugal scored on a counter, we shouldn't overreach.

But we also can't let them come 24/7 like we did the Swiss at the end.

Judging by his last few games Ronaldo either gonna get a hatrick on you guys or miss 13 shots a half and throw a reporter in a lake.
