Don't really care, but I'll be nervous if they haven't fixed the supply problem by the time the far superior SNES Classic Mini happens.

Wonder if NPD will track this? Can't wait to see the faces on the Sony-ponies when this thing outsells the PS4 Pro (or the Scorpio, for that matter).

But it's $59.99 versus $399.99 for a Pro.

Amazon had some at 5pm eastern and they crashed the site. Immediately scalpers had some *iN Hand!* at prices around $500 for a unit and $500 for the controller. Which would could probably buy the original the the carts for.

Nintendo already did this back in like 1998.

And then followed it up with the non-backlight Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance models.

Bruh, they had wireless controllers on the original NES. Back in the day.   Check out this TOTALLY RAD COMMERCIAL!

Yessir, yessir, yessir-- the Gameboy Light was only available in Japan and was a slightly-larger Gameboy Pocket-sized system.  It used two AA batteries instead of the Pocket's two AAA batteries, IIRC.  The light was similar to those indiglo watches that were popular back then-- it was the return of the green Gameboy screen when used, only more of a watermelon green as opposed to the spinach green/yellow from the original brick GB.  I eagerly-imported one back then (I think it was '98?) and played the hell out of it, but sold it off once the Gameboy Color was released and proceeded to import one of those instead.

Then I got the Neo-Geo Pocket (the non-color version!) and proceeded to toss Gameboy aside, following up with the Neo-Geo Pocket Color a short time later, until the GBA came out.

:bow Neo-Geo Pocket :bow2

On the other side of the pond, the Famicom Mini seems to be easier to find (online) and isn't selling for as much of a mark-up...but like the original, the controllers are permanently-attached to the console and it doesn't even come with an AC adapter.  Why do you keep fucking doing this, Nintendo?

I can also vouch for the 8bitdo controllers and wireless receivers. I have those for my NES and SNES, same quality as the originals, and the input lag is not noticeable with wireless.

Must buys if you retro pretty regularly.

It's a real shame these things have become impossible to find. Instead of something to be celebrated all I see are "journalists" and whiny manchildren on Youtube complaining that they can't find one.

Aside from the hilariously short controller cord the rest of this device is A+ and definitely a great Christmas gift.

This is probably the only video game thing that people were actually interested in when I mentioned it.  Had someone offer to buy it and we hooked it up to a monitor to mess around with it for a bit.  Weird how people are all over it even though it's just a little rom box.

For the original price, I thought it was fine. But more options are always welcome. It kind of comes off as "toy-like", I guess.

I can't imagine how people with very big hands can use the controllers comfortably though.
And the weight of the cable attached to the controller seems to be much heavier than the controller itself, which feels a bit weird.
All in all I really like it! But I wouldn't mind if I had paid more for more options/features.

Not to pile on but yeah I'm not getting noticeable lag and don't have trouble playing Punch Out. The NES Classic actually has less input lag than my Raspberry Pi 0.

I splurged and got the Japanese mini Famicom for the bf for Christmas. We've been loving it. Beat Zelda last night. It's the Famicom Disk System version, but the second controller doesn't have the mic so you have to just kill the Pols Voices with the sword (arrows don't work on them). I'd still like to get the NES mini though.

Yup, its finally happening. Seems like the limit is 60 games at the moment. I'm hoping for a more "distinguished mentally-challenged fellow proof" method, seems like you could still fuck up the machine.

Now I can put StarTropics 2 in there :rejoice

I currently have a total of 68 games on mine (counting the original 30), so it looks like you can go beyond the limit.

If you use the tool from http://clusterrr.com/soft/hakchi2.zip, it's extremely easy.  No save states or any of that other crap needed.  Just run the application, add games/boxart (it even searches google for you), then follow the on-screen instructions to flash the system and then you can dump games with ease.  I'm not even sure if this is needed every time, but I turn the system on in dev mode (hold reset for a few seconds, then power it on) when I'm adding games.

The only issues I've run into are:

-Some games are titled incorrectly on the game selection menu
-Some games are out of alphabetical order
-A few games would not add themselves to Hakchi when I tried.  Could be the ROM dumps.  One of the games that wouldn't add was a translated rom of Kid Dracula.

Since Nintendo can't do anything to stop this, watch them re-release the Mini with a different power port something done to stop this kind of hack from happening.  Then the price of the original units will skyrocket.  :lol

all work just fine. Just StarTropics 2 gives me issues. Havent tried rom translations or japanese games etc.
