He had a good run, admittedly. But like Seth pointed out on ESPN before this match, he jumps wayyyyy too much. Compare him to the Japanese Nashes and it's night and day.

I haven't been keeping up with SFV and how the game is played/supposed to be played, but there was a ton of jumping and movement in general. The 8 frame delay has probably affected anti airs the most, seems like anti airs are more often reads or guesses rather than reflex.

Japanese players and Asian players in general can share knowledge and test bad match ups a lot more than people from the United States. West coast and east coast US players might play each other a few times a year at most. Top Japanese players for example though often play each other in person at many events, same with Korean and Chinese players.

People would also attribute arcade releases and Japanese players getting a heads up, but SFV never got a arcade release. Really comes down to a lot talent being close together and that raising the stakes competitively.

Hmm weird. Is this the case for non-SF players?

The Smash scene has a lot of international talent but the US still dominates most of the time.

Depends on the game and if its 2d or 3d. Marvel Versus Capcom, Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, those games have very few Japanese competitors compared to Americans. Traditional or anime 2D fighters generally have a ton of Japanese competitors.

Smash has some variety but its dominated by Americans compared to many other games, its in the same league as something like Mortal Kombat when it comes to demographics. Japanese and Asian Smash players seem like a extreme rarity.

It's the case with most fighters, yeah. Morma is right in that distance for the US players is a major problem. They can rarely play together except at like Evo and maybe if they make plans for one of the "road to Evos." Korea and Japan are like a 1-2 hour flight from each other so they can just take a weekend off, pay the airfare and be there for the day or two.
