I remember I was playing Total Annihilation when my ex called to tell me some planes crashed into the WTC.
TA was such a good game.
TA was a masterpiece.
I had just been in Japan for a couple months when 9/11 happened. I was speaking to my sister, who was FTFO over the first plane hitting. She wasn't being clear, so I thought some idiot in a Cessna had critfailed his Pilot roll. While we spoke, the 2nd plane hit, and I realized it wasn't a mistake.
It's stunning how the terrorists have "won." The USA took all the goodwill from the entire planet and pissed on it by knowingly deciding to preemptively invade a country they knew had nothing to do with 9/11, and almost certainly knew was not hoarding WMDs. The middle-east is less stable than at any other time in my lifetime. Tolerance of Islam is at an utter low in the USA. We have layers of security theater at every airport which is provably ineffective and even manages to be corrupt to boot. We have limited freedom of movement.
I also think about Flight 94, and how the narrative treats them as heroes for managing to "just" crash their plane instead of letting the terrorists make it to their target. If it had been the only flight hijacked and the result was the same, the narrative would have vilified the passengers for not letting professionals deal with negotiation, blah-blah-blah.
