US Coal Plant Closures Likely To Eliminate 30 Million Tons Of Annual Coal Demand

The plant closures currently expected over the next few years are across 16 states — Colorado, Florida, Kentucky, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Coal producers in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming and Montana, and those in the Illinois Basin are expected to be the hardest hit — with two thirds of the expected annual demand losses predicted to stem from those two coal regions.

The Illinois Basin is the area between Evansville and Cape Girardeau and has a higher than U.S. average black population.

One of the counties down there has an abnormally high Arab and Asian population too, I forget which. It's not Dearborn or anything but still...

Both sides are bad™! Sure. But, BUT, BUT!!!!: You'd think Democrats wouldn't stoop to GOP's levels in regards to "oh fuck them, they're getting what they deserve" levels of resentment. Democrats won't cut programs they don't like (generally, at least in the older days) that may/may not benefit their voting base but will others. GOP's resentment is "I don't like this because DNC made it, so nix it" as seen by the failing of trying to replace ObamaCare with Trumpcare.

HOWEVER: DNC's resentment of a bunch of voters because "lol you deserve it for not voting for us!" is on the same level as the GOP's "lol you don't deserve this policy because we didn't make it!" pettiness. Grow up. (Not saying you are doing this, just making the point)

As we drove into Hershey, Pennsylvania my anticipation grew, and my senses were on full alert. We were returning to the land of chocolate. It was the absence of the aroma of chocolate wafting in the air that gave me the first clue that things had changed. We were returning to Hershey after many years away. The chocolate empire has obviously been a grand success for the Hershey family and the town but with the growth and modernization has come a sanitization of the old factory town.

We parked and went into Chocolate World, a Disneyesque attraction that is free of charge. We dodged strollers and harried shoppers as they scooped up chocolate goodies by the basketful. The place was crowded. Not knowing where to start we headed to the ticket counter and were a little astonished at the high priced attractions that people were paying for. We opted for the free Great American Chocolate Tour, a carnival ride through the world of chocolate. Simulations, Videos and storyboards told how the cocoa bean is harvested and processed. Twenty minutes later we emerged, received our free morsel of complimentary chocolate and were funneled back into the chocolate store. We missed the old factory tour where we saw the giant vats of chocolate being mixed and got an actual candy bar at the end. For free it's interesting on a museum sort of level, but if you are seeking a Willy Wonka chocolate fantasy it fell short.

Or the people of anywhere else in the country that had one industry employing everyone and nothing else suffering because that industry died off and since there is nothing else in the area, no one has anything to switch to, can't afford to move, and preferred someone (clearly lying) saying they'd keep those jobs as opposed to someone BRAGGING about putting them out of work. But it's okay because it's poor white people. Which leads me to my next point.

I dislike Trump core support, and I feel disheartening when there is polls showing people not remorseless of voting for him. At the same time, is telling that people still disapprove him a lot so it feels the sociopolitical divide contributed to make a lot of people to vote for someone that is a clear fraud.

I have been in the recive ending of "no empathy for you because your (apparent) politics" from both sides of the influence from your country's political spectrum (a lot of the social aspect of this kind of stuff gets here, even if our political realities are way different), so is not weird hearing the argument of "fuck the other guy".

A political side is less shitty that the other one, but people tend to see better as "good" than "less shitty".

Because I hate to tell you this, Republicans are winning in government right now. They control the majority of states and all federal branches of government. The core of the left has a distribution and participation problem. Its the lurking variable in all these broad statistics about an increasing majority minority.

So if you really give two shits about advancing social justice and social liberalism, and not just relishing in the self satisfaction of others being punished for their bad choices, your mindset is a self-defeating one. And one that sort of puts a bad face on a movement that we supposedly are seeking justice as a restitution for injustice, not vengeance.
