All it would take is a very minor purge (in terms of number of users purged) and gaf would be bearable again. 50 posters or so would probably be enough.

The internet is real life.

It's not a magical wonderland or fantasy realm. It's just people. Talking to other people.

It's how people in the 21st century communicate with each other. In many cases, it's the primary form of communication. As in I'm willing to bet a large number of people spend more time talking to other people via the internet than they do speaking one on one in person.

And as users of any (if not multiple) social media platforms, even ones that still permits the facade of "anonymity" that a screenname and a cartoon avatar provides, we should all be pretty keenly aware of the fact that discourse that happens online is just... discourse. It's not "internet discourse," it's not automatically lesser because it happened online. Because the internet shapes the way we go about our business on the daily, and things that are posted on the internet can (and do, and will continue to) affect people's lives. It's impossible to argue otherwise in 2017.

If people say SJW as an alt-right flavored insult soaked in superficial (and supercilious) cynicism on the internet, they are saying it in real life.

(for what its worth, I've heard multiple people use the term, out loud. Granted, I live in Portland, so hey, yunno... but in every instance, the term has been used negatively as a means to suggest people who care about progressive concerns are just faking it for pats on the back from other liberal-leaning progressives)
