The Warriors is one of my favorite movies of all time. I used it as an example of an old movie that uses words I don't approve of. I'm certainly not hypersensitive on this issue.

I dunno, I dont label people as SJW because  I know the reasons why people found it annoying (so discussions get side tracked), but Im not going to pretend that I dont roll my eyes when someone gets annoyed by it. Then again, thats why I dont usually debate whatever is correct to use it  and usually just go for "Gaf is doing something stupid again".

Jon is correct. Trump supporters are not a monolith. That is not apologizing for them, it is understanding the issues instead of being blinded by anger.

The reality on the ground in the majority of the United States is nothing at all like, say, a university campus.

Most Trump voters are not the ugly alt-right trolls or caspers, they're people who chose to ignore their candidate's messages of hate because it was not perceived as directed at them, or not perceived as a real threat, or otherwise was just not sufficiently relevant to their lives, and believed to be voting for themselves in some way by voting for Trump........Many have very limited direct exposure to other viewpoints, ethnic groups, religious ideologies, and ways of living, which makes it difficult to empathize with other demographics and easy to be made scared shitless by propaganda

   

He also goes out into the real world and engages with people from both parties, rather than sitting in an echo chamber, which is why he is not willing to dismiss Trump voters as a binary, monolithic pool of racist scum. He is not apologizing for them or downplaying the numerous threats to civil liberties that our country now faces, in some cowardly extension of affluent white male privilege. Jon is not a fool. Reality is not binary.

 

but here the rules will stay the same and still apply to everyone. Bigotry and hate speech will not be tolerated, and you will also not scream and threaten and run someone out of town at any hint of who they may have voted for or what party they affiliate with.

Er... Poorly articulated but I think he meant that frustration of the poverty and conditions of reconstruction lead to southern whites taking out their anger on black folks. This lead to Jim Crow being passed, lynchings, mass amounts of violence towards, and the re-enslavement of black people through legal slavery. From 1870-1897, twenty black congressmen served. After that there wasn't a single black congressman until 1929. That is over 30 years. Vote laws, intimidation to not vote, lynchings, the KKK. As blacks became richer and more powerful, whites grew agitated and resentful, especially in the heart of reconstruction and post-reconstruction. The south lost its bread and butter and lashed out - violently.

It's not that black people were necessarily "blamed" so much as resentment towards black folks - what used to be consider their property and currency - were having more gains than them in an age of mass southern poverty that arguably still has not recovered since.

Call me crazy but I increasingly feel that a coup is becoming likely in the US.

Imagine you are at te CIA or NSA and you know Russia is financing or influencing people like Duke, Flynn, etc., and the president. Let's say you are mounting a case with proofs, to start leakig this info the media and other agencies. You would know damn well that your time is running out and that eventually some folks would crack down on your department. Once the head appointee is replaced, it's all over, it would be nearly impossible to break other than wait for another party to win, and in this scenario anything goes, the elections might be completely rigged from here on out.

All of this is very possible right now. Everything is falling into place. The question is would any agency act to prevent that? Would the Pentagon?

I would not put the probabilities to zero anymore. I think it's actually likely if the nominations aren't balanced.
