Can someone publicly call out BR for posing as black when his ban expires?

Gotta go the other way and try to get his thoughts on things as a black man.

I dunno. It's more than RT. It's the way the reviews are written.

Like this one. Slate....AGAIN. (I hate this site)

www.slate.com/articles/arts/television/2016/08/how_baz_luhrmann_s_the_get_down_butchers_hip_hop_history.html

BUTCHERS hip hop history

Or maybe it's trash because Baz Luhrmann, maker of shitty movies, made a shitty tv show.

Take that back. Get Down is the best Netflix show  and didn't he only direct the first ep? :rejoice

RT for TV is garbage though. Who uses it for that?

Buffy would probably have a 0% if RT was around for s1 (Lord help me if you say that's what it deserves. :maf)

The last two seasons when Marti Noxon ran the show deserved it. :yuck :yuck :yuck :yuck

Season 6 was great breh. Show was laser focused on making the characters (and you) depressed as fuck which was very true to life post-HS/college. Strong writing and characterizations. Plus Dark Willow was just badass (and a culmination of like three seasons of plot.) Show got meta as fuck and I loved it. Once More With Feeling is the best episode of the show, too.

:lawd

Season 7 was weak for sure. Highlights were for me personally were the Spike parts.

Also that scene at the end of Showtime when Buffy rescues him, and he thinks for a few moments it's The First before he realizes it's the real deal. James Marsters knocked it out of the park.

Is Buffy worth watching?

I'm okay with garbage television if it's good.

Yup, if you can tolerate whedonesque dialog you'll be fine. Fun show (s1 and s4 are doo doo though.)

YUP.

season four is also worst angel

spooky :omg

ALSO YUP.

My theory is Buffy s4 was garbo because Joss was setting up Angel s1 at the same time, and Angel s4 was garbo because he was setting up Firefly s1. (:teehee)

But once he saw just how garbo the shows had become in his semi-absence he re-doubled down. Season 5 is also the best season for both Buffy and Angel.

As you said, spooky. :omg

Just watch Angel instead, it's much better.

Nah it's on-par with Buffy overall, it just gets off better since it has a much more solid intro season, and Angel s5 is the best thing in the Whedonverse. Angel s3 is much more of a mess than Buffy s3, though.

The worst part about Angel is going back to Buffy's smaller scale, even though Sunnyvale expands and contracts as needed, it decidedly does not feel like the center of evil like the Wolfram & Hart offices. Nor does it have all the fun side character/demons.

Also, like half the cast tossing off magic on a whim by the end of the show is kinda lame. What is this? Charmed?

i watched reruns after angel reruns on like usa or somethin a few years back, it was ok, didn't deal with the myth arcs anywhere as well as Buffy/Angel

When you say Buffy S1 is doodoo, how bad are we talking? Like Seinfeld Season 1, or like Parks and Rec Season 1?

Seinfeld s1, I guess. It's pretty low-fi. Also had the same deal where it's much shorter than the following seasons, so thankfully you won't have to suffer much.

I guess it's also kinda like P&R s1 in that the later seasons kinda switch characters up, and a character or two just leaves cause their story wasn't working.

TNT. I remember they'd always have Charmed after Angel. :lol

Compared to Buffy, Angel always felt smaller scale to me (but that's why it worked.) It was just one city where as Buffy was fighting The First Evil, etc. Also half of Angel's problems he made for himself. :lol

Who was doing magic other than Willow at the end of Buffy? Giles and Anya I guess? And even Willow had to reign herself in because of the s6 stuff.

Peak Angel for me is the flashback ep where he's in the middle of all this hotel drama. A demon's feeding off the paranoia and they lash out at Angel after he's been trying to help them for the entire ep. Then the demon shows up and Angel's like, "take them all" and leaves them to get eaten. :lol :lol :lol

Was so fucked but so satisfying.

So a bunch of vampires storm into a club, lock the doors and hold everyone captive, ritually murder the bouncer and a female student, and the next day life goes on and kids are playing hacky sack outside the school because people "rationalize what they can and forget what they can't."

I'm not sure this is the show for me.

There's some background explanation for the apparent obliviousness of the populace (as the seasons piled up, they needed to adress it to keep the whole thing superficially coherent) but yeah if you can't get over that it's probably not for you.

These other students also witnessed Buffy Summers jump off the club balcony and engage in hand to hand combat with a vampire on stage. It had better be one hell of a background explanation.

Is it like how we find out that Superman's powers generate some kind of distortionary field around his face so he actually looks butt ugly as Clark Kent?

I honestly doubt it will convince you though it's woven in the main plot throughout. As I said it always struck me more as a writing necessity than anything, most long running fictions will run into some sort of similar issue. In the less descriptive fashion and IIRC :

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I believe at first it is posited that the town being special means there's some massive self-delusion going on, then more story elements indicate there's converging efforts for covering-up the whole thing though the whole "humans are good at denial" message was always there. But I mean really in the later seasons there's some in-universe "retcons" happening so reality is a malleable commodity anyway.

I don't know how things are with regards to the spin off series Angel but to my knowledge it's giving credence to the whole cover-up thing as it's all happening in Los Angeles with demons holding high positions of power within civil society.

Angel makes more explicit that it's all well known that demons and such hold "real-world" power among everyone that matters in the show. In the early seasons the most Buffy does is when Principal Quark basically states that "no, it was meth heads...AGREED?!?" that killed like fifteen people and drank their blood and stuff.

I forget how they explain the third season finale though. That would have been tough.

At some point they mention how the town population started dropping rapidly due to people leaving and in the last season they eventually evacuate the entire town.

They do try stuff early on where it's like oh, Buffy's all athletic and actually kind of hot so should be popular and in sports and stuff, but eventually drop it when they get more into the supernatural plots instead of it trying to also be a high school show.

The only reason to so comically reverse causation on Gamergate is to put the community and Neogaf as some sort of epicenter. I don't understand how they can keep pushing that ridiculous narrative when it's not even the first occurence in geek circles (Idris Elba playing Heimdall in Thor, remember that one ?).
