Gaf gaming is fun to watch the outrage

Off topic is fun to watch the outrage and wonder how do these people function.

Just watched the speech earlier. Incredible stuff, but I have to wonder if Ryder's expressions was that maybe she's a Trump supporter feeling awkward in the crowd? I have no idea what her political affiliation or feelings on matters are.

Witness the modern day McCarthyism.

Yeah, ok lol.

McCarthyism takes effort. Until such a process can be achieved through insulated forum shit-posts and giving up hour blocs of TV, I think the guy breaking international law to make good on his promise to shed the country of brown people will be who I keep my eye on.

GAF is turning into an even more unbearable shit-hole at an alarming rate recently. But hey, you kick out anyone with a semblance of critical thinking skills that push back on some of the nonsense and all you are left with when shit hits the fan is hyperbolic nonsense.

I think both are alarming, IMO.  :doge

/r/Games is far better imo. All the gaming news of the day without toxic identity politics and the pretentious, self-righteous assholes. If I want gaming news I go there, if I want to be entertained by a carnival of stupid I go to neogaf.

I disagree, even with reddit's voting system that practically encourages circlejerking it's not even comparable to neogaf. It was better when it was smaller, like all subs, but it's still a pretty decent community.

Dude, the moderation there is just as bad as GAF. /r/gaming being default meant everyone went to /r/games and instead of memes or cakes, it's circlejerks and outrage over pre-order bonuses and shit like that.

It hasn't been my experience tbh. Sure the mods there are biased too on certain matters but they don't ban nearly as often and the community often calls them out on their bullshit. Unless you're a raging asshole you don't get banned easily and yes the community agrees on certain subjects like preorder bonuses but that's because it makes sense not because the moderators have banned everyone else who disagrees. Just the fact that reddit has an open registration system makes the sub FAR less restrictive since the members there don't hesitate to voice their opinion in fear of certain authoritarian lunatics like it happens in GAF.

There's really nothing to visit GAF for other than being linked to GAF being GAF. I stopped going years ago and the onyl time I see the forum is people linking to it for laughs. This is something that goes beyond this thread. It's an internet joke at this point.

All these years, GAF wanted something of note to be their own after regurgitating form SA and 4chan. Finally they have their own thing: complete insanity.

Politics threads are trash-tier now because there aren't that many people left who actually understand how shit works.

Back in 2008 we were all kind of dumb, and over the course of the Obama administration we all learned a shit-ton. 2012 was probably the peak for informed political discussion on GAF. But most of those people were banned or stopped posting over the last few years, and the new posters are just as dumb as we all were in 2008.

Cesare Borgia is one of the only people who actually understands how the fuck shit operates. I think he worked in DC, so that makes sense.

I was there since 2004(sad). I definitely would not say 2012 was any sort of high-water mark.

If anything I would say the Bush administration period, combined with the greater allowed diversity of opinion, and a lot of quality posters that hadn't yet gotten run off or banned for wrong-think, at least kindled some decent discussions. Since people actually had to qualify the shit they were saying and "mods help" was not nearly as viable a tactic to win arguments.

Yeah, I remember tons of arguments and debate going back and forth back then. After Bush left, it all sorta just died and banning for wrongthink took off.

Garth Brooks is a legitimately great guy. I used to deliver pizza more than a decade ago and he would come by and buy ice cream for all 20 or so employees when he picked up his pizza. I even accidentally knocked him on his ass once (I'm a pretty tall guy) on accident, rushing out the door, and he was super nice to me even though that shit was ridiculous. Great guy and incredibly kind and gracious to people he talked to.

He's got a heck of a musical legacy, but it's weird, it seems like most people never pay attention to him. Even in country circles, he's not really as discussed as he ought to be, considering how much he's put out.

I use Reddit more than GAF these days because it's more focused on the original post than the comments below it. And also because the worthless shitposts tend to get buried instead of taking up the entire first page or two. And then there's also subscriptions, which let you filter out topics you don't care about like cinematic universes and shit.

I feel like it's the complete opposite - the one-liner Twitter comedian shitposts get upvoted to the top, to the point where the first post you read in every thread is by Rodney Dangerfield.

And then you collapse it and every response to it away with a single click, instead of having to waste brain cycles scanning for the worthwhile bits the way you have to with a linear format.

I should clarify, I'm pro-shitposting. I prefer Reddit's style over NeoGAF because the (arguably) good shitposts are voted to the top and the rest can be ignored. On GAF you have no choice but to scroll past every single attempt at being snarky or funny until you find the 1 out of 50 that actually hits the mark.
