MLK was not really against physical violent protest though.

And the same two MLK quotes are trotted out in the thread to prove once and for all that MLK was in no form a peaceful protestor.  That's just a lie told by the whites.

I think there's a lot of truth to Stern's take on Trump. Donald wants to be loved more than anything, and hates being hated. But when he is hated and loved at the same time, he can only pay attention to the haters. I think he is really ambivalent about the job, and is full of rage and self-pity, and has no hope of climbing out of the pit he's in given the policies he's pursuing and the people he's surrounded himself. He will never be welcome in New York City again -- imagine that!

Hopefully things won't end in war, but in mere resignation and disgrace.

Reading the meltdown of the "national african american history" thread is amazing,

"...the...

...the NAAH month?"

"I really wish I could say I was surprised."

"I don't want Trump changing shit."

"President Bannon probably told him to do this so that it would drum up controversy and make black people and liberals look unreasonable to his racist base."

"Keep it black. I ain't fucking with this "America" shit since the fuhrer took charge."

"Black History Month was fine. If there were going to be changes, perhaps Black American History Month would've been better."

"My guess, downplay examples of international black excellence. Begin to silence the voices of those around the world while consolidating things here.:drudge

"Trump hasn't earned the credibility to make this change."

"Trump, like most people with no passing interest in people other than himself, assumed if you're black you must be african american. Changing the name is ignorant at best, insulting at worst."

"Trump overcompensating again. trying too hard to not sound racist but sounding the opposite."

"This new name is quite a mouth full and doesnt flow as well."

"This narrows things down to African-American culture, instead of Black culture the world over. And yes, there are significant people and events in African-American history, this will unfortunately focus Afro-American's history to events related to America, not its cultural ancestry to Africa, and to other notable events and Black people the world over.

This is more America First bullshit."

"Just from my time on gaf it really seems like Black is the preferred way to refer to Black Americans and that African American is generally frowned upon. Am I wrong?

Either way, why the fuck are you touching this Trump? If it needed to be changed Obama would have done it. Trump just showing he knows more than the actual people would. Cool."  :doge

--intermission of someone pointing out that Obama used the same nomenclature-- (it didn't matter)

"This pig just wants to own everything"

"Trump changing things overall makes me anxious. He's not a compassionate man."

"Don't call me African-American."

"So Obama changed it and Trump is trying to take credit?"  :doge :doge :doge :doge :doge :doge :doge :doge :doge

"And when you start reaching that point of research, their skeletons start tumbiling out of the closet, hence the focus on America only."

"I Don't Give A Fuck what consensus he came up with.

Don't touch NOTHIN, Trump.

Goddamn, leave our month alone!

Donald Trump done fucked up and turned it into BLACK History Year.

I'm getting t-shirts made."

:drudge :drudge :drudge :drudge :drudge

"Goddamn Donald Trump is like somebody's bad ass kid!

Don't touch NOTHIN!

You not even hungry! You just ate!

You just want it cuz you see it, huh????

Ugh!!!!"

:drudge :drudge :drudge :drudge :drudge :drudge :drudge :drudge :drudge :drudge

"Black is a dirty word for him? And it's not up to him what the black populace wants thier history to be known as."

Ah. Basic moral reasoning. Obvious nazi if you can do that.

I wonder if people mad that Trump won the election instead of Hilary realize that the groups they are making excuses for have ultimately no interest in the election, but would rather tear down the Republic whole. The reality is that both Blow and some idiot GAffer would eventually be next up in line for purging or something they might term "corrective action".

There is a direct parallel with those GAFers  that start threads asking for a list  of games they should buy for a console they apparently bought on a complete whim and those GAFers requiring lists of people  who commited political wrong-think.

Have you tried attacking women?

South Park betraying America by not going heavy on Trump is the dumbest concept. Those guys have one job: be funny. I'm a standup comic, and was doing really well with Trump material until election night. People are pissed and/or scared, and not ready to laugh. Clapter is always easy "Fuck Trump and support the troops!" but it isn't funny.

South Park betraying America by not going heavy on Trump is the dumbest concept.
You don't get it do you? They owe penance for the crimes they already committed:
Quote
But pandering to "both sides are the same, everybody sucks" people had huge real world consequences. South Park is a pretty popular show, especially amongst the younger audience, so them pulling the "turd sandwich vs giant douche" shtick again (it wasn't funny the first time) probably kept quite a few people from voting. I'm not saying it could've made a difference in the outcome, but it could have helped, at least.

Nobody is saying they're alt-right. But to pretend they weren't pulling the "both sides are the same" BS is ridiculous. Shit, they reused the "giant douche vs turd sandwich" analogy, which is nothing but a "both sides are the same" argument.
Quote
It's not surprising that they're backing off Trump.

For years, the show has operated under the assumption that critique of absolutely everything was the only way to achieve neutrality In a lot of cases, it made them revolutionaries. But in recent years, it's led to them falling on the shit side of history. They mocked Al Gore for trying to alert people about climate change. Distilled Caitlyn Jenner's complex relationship with media & the trans community into a one-line meme that made it impossible to discuss the subject in online circles. And worst of all, pushed the idea that Clinton & Trump were equally unpleasant options. I hold them more responsible for millennial voter apathy in 2016 than any other show on TV. For all their achievements, history will not look fondly on South Park.
Quote
It was already too late, dude. South Park spent so long arguing for not caring about shit and "living for the lulz" that no amount of parody could have fixed that they'd successfully convinced their audience that a dude who brags about molesting women was hilarious. This is what people mean when they accuse South Park of being alt-right: it's a truncated way of noticing that not all South Park fans are alt-right, but boy fucking howdy do a lot of alt-righters like South Park.

Even ignoring moments where the show's "satire" just got straight up evil (remember when the show "reclaimed" the word "taco" so it didn't mean "gay people" anymore? You're welcome, gays! Us straight people fixed it for ya!), South Park has advocated the "both sides!" thing so long in the interest of being "impartial" that when we had a choice between a shitty politician and Hitler Again, it was common narrative to act like Clinton's emails and comments of "deplorables" (no matter how correct she was in using that term) were on equal footing with cavorting with neo-nazis and wanting to fuck your daughter. This is literally how fascism infiltrates: the second you act like their points are even worth considering, you've already elevated them to a status of "just an opinion." They actively advocated not giving a shit during the times where we most certainly needed to.

I agree, but not expected in a community where culture/entertainment consumption has been tied to one's identity and self worth. To a lot of those people, I suspect entertainment is basically... well, everything (I know, I've been there too) and their main & only window on the world at large.
Maybe I'm selling GAF's short though. After all, one can call all manners of names the whole "super woke SJW" thing but at the very least it supposes taking some critical distance.

Does everything have to be expressed through entertainment before people care? I get that's it's more effective than most vehicles, but isnt it sad that you have to attach important issues to fucking comic characters to get people to do shit? Maybe take a look at that(Image removed from quote.)

It's been posted before but

So they really want lockstep ideals with no wavering on a single issue, else you're a fascist? I'm really not clear on that one.

NeoGAF.

The design of GAF from a user standpoint is great though. Very readable and easy to follow discussions. Obviously there is currently an ad problem.

Worst: Reddit and Reddit-style forums.

I tried browsing 4chan this one time to see who the people who run the country are but I can't wrap my head around how threads are supposed to flow.
