I mean, I understand the logic for saying the joke was homophobic, and if GAF at large had any consistency they would also consider it problematic and gross. However, the homosexual act itself was not the joke, the joke of course was that Trump is Putin's servant. I mean, the joke could be made in the context of a male and a female politician as well. To me the assumption the joke relies on is that blowjobs are an act of submissiveness, total pleasure giving and lacks reciprocity for the giver.

Since the context of Colbert's entire schtick on Putin/Trump here is that unlike with pretty much anything else, Trump is willing to go negative no matter how credentialed or high quality of a character they are, except with Putin. It's kind of impossible to divorce a joke implying a man is weak and submissive to another man as an insult by saying he sucks dick from the historical context of dudes calling dudes gay/queer/homo/feg to mean the same thing. It's obviously a homophobic insult in nature, but not a particularly offensive of malicious one in regards to gay men.

And my only point is that just because something is more often then not one thing - but not always - it doesn't make it correct to assume it is always that one thing by default....And that in this case I don't see that homophobia present.
