I think I posted a copy of the syllabus in a thread commenting about how he wanted us to read:

It was 2009, we were fresh off hopium and Keynes was going to save us from the great recession.  So it was extra fun to poke fun at the required reading (Though it was a good read).

Anywho, that's my guess as to how he found this place.  The syllabus must have had his name on it.

Then he or his "people" searched other posts from my old account and found a few posts.
This would have included posts that had pictures of me and pictures of my cats.
My history also included:
- A post talking about reasons why he creeped me and my group members out.
- A post talking about how one of my group members was so hot that she made me feel hideous in comparison.

What the fuck? I hope you snitched on that professor. What was the reasoning behind telling you to delete your posts?

I didn't snitch on him.
A few reasons why:

He had told me another one of his students was expelled recently for "posting comments about a female student online".  He said he saw my comment about my group member.  I told him I didn't post anything lewd about her, didn't post her picture, didn't give her name or anything.  But I didn't want it to become a bigger deal so I decided to have it deleted.

The other reason why:  I didn't have any proof to substantiate my reasons for feeling like he was a closeted sexual predator.  I didn't know if saying so could cause me any trouble and I didn't want to push it further.

I did tell him that "the fact you tracked me down on a small forum and approached me like this is definitely creepy."

So creepy that I just decided to nuke the account and become a lurker here.

After that whole situation he was really complimentary towards me.  TBH, I did kick ass in the class, but it felt like he was being too nice.  That always made me feel  uneasy, as if he was rewarding me for deleting/sweeping under the rug the whole situation.


Bonus facts:
- He's also a Republican consultant for local/state politicians.  Dunno how prominent, but he talked about it quite a bit.
- His name now completely escapes me.  I kind of wonder if he ever got caught for doing something awful.  I also wonder if he was just a creepy dude who all-in-all was a good guy.  Hard to say.

He also left a parting creepy gift to one of the girls in our class.  She had asked to do her final presentation a few days early because she had a family trip somewhere in Europe.  Instead of letting her do it earlier than scheduled, he said "What a coincidence, I'm going to be in that country the same time as you.  How about you present it to me there?"  She agreed, but man the looks on the faces of people in class were like wtf...that's creepy. 

btw, our final presentations took place over a few classes.  There was definitely room for him to move up her presentation but he wouldn't.

I want safety and financial stability. That's all I ask. To go to local market and to the GP without expecting that I would be stopped and fined/jailed because wearing a niqab. I don't have the luxury to work in countries where the niqab is enforced. My mother was imprisoned in a muslim country BECAUSE she dared to wear the hijab. In the Scandinavian country where I was born, I cannot even work and study with a normal Abaya and hijab, let alone a niqab. NOWHERE in the world can we be women, muslim and black and have a stable and safe lifestyle where I can work and go to uni and hospital and no be treated like dirt. And the Human Right court of all places should not have upheld a law that further restricts our rights.

Here's the thing: with this ban upheld, soon when other European countries follow suit, there would be nowhere where I can live as a muslim, black and queer woman. If I want to live like a normal human being, I would need to shed and hide one of these identities (which I'm actually kinda doing right now, since I'm still not fully out as a queer).
And the Human Right's court would be helping shaping that future. The Human. Rights. Court.

That's it, pack it up folks. Human Rights™ and Freedom* was a lie. I mean, what is the difference between Saudi Arabia enforcing a dress code and Belgium and France banning a dress code? Is it a matter of perspective, that "when they ain't doing it like us they're bad, when we do it it's good"? I mean, you could argue that not wearing the hijab in Saudi Arabia is going against social norms. Going against norms should never be the basis for criminalizing a dress code.

I don't have the luxury to work in countries where the niqab is enforced.

When I was in middle school, we covered the holocaust every grade year but barely went into slavery and its social impact. Instead, people justify slavery for various reasons or like you, say,"slavery isn't special." When the Atlantic Slave Trade was a particularly far more extreme and cruel manner of slavery.

Not sure about your local education board, but they did here. What social impact are you talking about? Modern day social impacts are generally not going to be expounded upon in primary education.. But certainly they (again, at least here) discuss the impact of the slave trade and its relation to oppression and civil rights movement, and touching on modern social impacts etc. There isn't going to be much long, nuanced discussion of that outside of a specific course discussing that.

That's pretty universal to big artists, though. Go to any classic rock station and all the big bands only have 2-4 songs played. Even stations that do the hour of Zepplin usually do at least 2-3 of the same songs every night. Outside of specific shows dedicated to them, radio isn't and has never been about deep cuts.

It feels like other big artists had more variety. IDK.

Madonna: Like A Virgin is really the only one I ever hear on the radio

And so on and so forth. There is only so much time in a day, most people just want to hear snippets of the hits on their way to or from work/school.

That's fair. I still think the hits they chose kind of did Prince a disservice. I recall far more variety for Michael Jackson for instance. MJ is probably why I think this. On black stations, common MJ songs you hear are: Rock With You, Working Day And Night, Don't Stop Till You Get Enough, Beat It, Thriller, PYT, Billie Jean, Bad, Smooth Criminal, Liberian Girl, Heal The World, Black and White, Remember The Time;etc. That's a lot of songs. Now they don't play these songs all at once, nor all the time but every now and then. The same is true for a lot of other black musicians like 2pac, or whatever. But Prince only ever had Little Red Corvette, Kiss, and Purple Rain played. I think my local radio and satellite radio did him a complete disservice. I listen to channel 50 on Sirius quite a bit and when he was alive never fucking heard a Prince song besides Purple Rain. So when contrasting the amount of play MJ or Biggie, or 2pac to someone like Prince it's really different in the amount of play. MJ got this kind of play even when he was alive by the way.

My school definitely spent a lot of time on the Atlantic Slave Trade, far more than the Holocaust. Oklahoma public school attendee, yee-haw.

Of course, it was taught by old racists who said shit like "black people enjoyed being slaves so they didn't want to be in the Civil War because they'd lose their jobs" - so what I was taught was mostly horseshit in the end. Had to re-learn the history I was supposed to learn pretty early. Fucking Oklahoma.

I think we spent equal time on both in South Florida.

Went extra hard on the Holocaust cause I had quite a few Jewish teachers throughout each grade. As far as the slave trade went, it wasn't focused on in elementary but some of my middle/high school teachers did go into good detail about it. Even had one of my substitute history teachers call the textbook we got biased lol

We learned so much about the holocaust that by 8th grade I was maxed out. In English class we were going to start reading Anne Frank and I literally asked the teacher when we were going to stop  learning about the holocaust because I was sick of it. From Texas. In order to learn about slavery and stuff I had to go and get books outside of school to learn about it.

That sucks. If I recall correctly, in my high school we covered slavery more in history classes and holocaust was on the curriculum in english lit classes. Not sure why. But there was an entire class that was just on American History so we covered slavery, civil war and civil rights movement a good deal. I feel like the genocide of Native Americans gets less attention than both, and way less than it should, to be honest.

My schooling didn't say a damn thing about the shit that happened to indigenous Americans. The only way I could have got a worse education about how indigenous folks got fucked over is if I went to Canada.

I think there was one lesson on the Trail of Tears and that was it.

Funny enough, I didn't really learn about the extent of Native American genocide till I took a World Religion class in college.

Not once. But then again I grew up in a country with an actual education system.
