I'm happy with the concept (one less system to buy) but I was expecting the portable handheld successor to the 3DS to be more...portable? Gonna need to know more about the dimensions on that thing. It sure looks like a smaller Wii U tablet and Wii U tablet is huge and not something you can just stick in your pocket and take on planes/trains.
Doesn't seem to be a problem for all the people using tablets out there. I can't even remember the last time I put a handheld system in my pocket-- my phone goes in there and that's it. Handhelds get their own cases and get thrown into backpacks and what not.
No d-pad isn't a huge dealbreaker imo since the pro controller has a d-pad, even if it's not ideal. Actually thinking about this a little more, since 90% of what I play on Japanese systems are menu-based rpgs using the d-pad and I do want to play them in bed at night, no d-pad kinda sucks.
It has "d buttons" instead. That's not going to be a problem for navigating menus and such. Really those kind of controls aren't going to be a problem for anything except for something like a fighting game.
I just hope Nintendo really sticks with this and there's no separate handheld system a year or two later.
I could see a handheld coming later on for one reason: Price. If the Switch is gonna be like $350-$400, that could be a huge turn-off to a lot of potential (portable) buyers.
Also wonder what this means for all the Japanese developers that have no budget for games and were clinging onto the 3DS as their last chance for budget 3d graphics. Doesn't look like that stuff will fly here.
Don't see why not. I see a lot of J-devs jumping ship from 3DS and Vita to this.
Why do people care about a touch screen? How many games have actually even used the damn thing for anything beneficial outside Kirby Roll and Rhythm Games?
Mario Maker?
If they want to attract people who like to game on phones and tablets...they're probably going to want a touch screen.
Nobody said it didn't have a touch screen either, though.
port of Skyrim
port of Splatoon
port of MK8
port of Zelda
port of NBA2K17
new Mario
Quite bad.
And all these games are portable and look amazing given they can be played that way. And this was just a three minute teaser video.
Quite good.
I'm not gonna fault Nintendo for that reveal. This is a hell of a lot better than the Wii and Wii U.
...So far. That's key here, too.
