NX is going to be a VR mobile console hybrid. Nintendo has been chasing gimmicks since after the Wii and it wouldn't be shocking if they attempt VR in the cheapest and most oddball way possible. Standalone console with VR support, VR headset is both used on the home console and as a mobile gaming device. Console is $299, VR headset will be $399.

Nintendo will go third party in 2020.
OH!

You won't even have time to play them really because the launch window will be packed with great titles, these have been worked on for years so no delays, no more dry spells.

Now that mobile and home division won't exist you will get double the games, so Really New Super Mario 2D and then just months later New Super Duper Mario 2D, which are totally different games that take years to make, not something interns threw together in the basement using a level editor in a week.

Those small controllers though. Also looks a bit fiddly for younger kids maybe why they advertised older.

I don't understand why it has to be a tablet or have detachable controllers.

Just slap a GBA design into a dock.

Otherwise looked cool. Finally a new 3D Mario since Galaxy. (3D World shit doesn't count.)

Looks pretty cool.  Way slicker than the Wii U.

But also looks visually like the Wii U, so I wonder what will happen with third party support.  Hoping that if anything, all the third parties making Vita games jump to this thing instead.

On the 'pro controller' shown in the video.

If the rumors are true, the controller pieces that come off will be interchangeable and you'll have ones with d-pads on them available too.

I look at this less like a successor to the Wii U and more like a successor to the 3DS. This thing would still be so even if there was no dock. Nintendo isn't competing with the PS4 or XO, and that was always pretty clear.

They're stretching their legs in a market they've soundly beaten all their historical competitors: handheld gaming. The new form factor is acutely designed to lure people (children) from iPads.

This is kind of a smart move and is kind of what the Wii U should have been. This kind of fulfills the tablet aspect. It actually seems like a portable tablet. People are claiming it's too big, can't fit into a pocket. Not really a problem in today society. Kids can't put their ipas in their pocket's either.

The problem here is now the Switch is fighting a two front war. It has to compete with the ipad market, because now this does seem like an actual portable tablet and while it will play games it probably won't have the sheer utility of an ipod which is also why parents buy them.

It has to compete is a home console which has been a weakness for Nintendo for awhile.

I think it looks like a cool console and I'm no Nintendo fan honestly. I hope it has more Bayonetta and Xenoblade.

Not gonna lie, I thought it looked pretty cool.

Looks like what the Wii U should have been, and i like that it has it's own controller outside of the tablet switches.

That's where I am. I think it's gonna flop and suck hard. But at least it's something that looks like what the Wii U should've been years ago. If they put a "handheld"/main-line Pokemon on it and it looks good on a TV, oh baby it'll print money from that fanbase.

I'm happy with the concept (one less system to buy) but I was expecting the portable handheld successor to the 3DS to be more...portable?  Gonna need to know more about the dimensions on that thing.  It sure looks like a smaller Wii U tablet and Wii U tablet is huge and not something you can just stick in your pocket and take on planes/trains.

No d-pad isn't a huge dealbreaker imo since the pro controller has a d-pad, even if it's not ideal.  Actually thinking about this a little more, since 90% of what I play on Japanese systems are menu-based rpgs using the d-pad and I do want to play them in bed at night, no d-pad kinda sucks.

No touch screen for something basically a tablet seems dumb

Well, how are you going to replicate that for TV mode?

I think the most innovative part of the whole thing is the concept of a portable system with 2 detachable controllers for portable 2 player gaming with a friend whether you go.  Even if it means you're stuck with tiny little 4 button controllers that look sorta uncomfortable, it's still an original and cool concept.  Can be on a train and share a 2 player game with an SO, or go to a friends house and play Smash.
