The stuff isn't that bad. She wasn't going Farrakhan or anything.
But she talks about how she's squicked by the idea of gay sex, assumes that all straight people are equally squicked, defends people who find homosexuality immoral, makes gay "jokes" that only work if "haha he's gay!" is inherently funny, said the Democrats should avoid gay marriage or open military service for political reasons, brings up the perceived connection between homophobia and pedophilia, etc. Taken as a whole it paints a picture of someone who was pretty uncomfortable with the movement towards LGBT acceptance, though not virulent about it.
Which describes a lot of contemporary Democrats! She was probably to the right of the median Dem on this at the time (Jon Stewart was telling "chick with dick" jokes while Bush was president), but not that far out and lots of people who are outspoken on the topic now are just lucky that their comments from 10-15 years ago weren't all archived. I think the comments were pretty crappy, but I also don't think they're disqualifying for having a platform later but man wouldn't it be better to just acknowledge them, say you've grown as a person, and not fake a hacking conspiracy?
