Many on the left used fearmongering around 'deficit spending' as a way to malign Reagan. The underlying dig being that he was spending out of control, escalating the military and leading us into a nuclear war with the Soviets. Biden was one of them.

They were so effective in that messaging that the early 90's became defined by the idea that the government was going bankrupt. This in turn spurred the success of people like Ross Perot and the Contract for America capitalizing on that anxiety. The big selling point on the Contract was term limits and a Balanced Budget Amendment.

So, you had many dems on the hill (those that survived the 1994 culling) then in a position where they spent the last decade maligning the Republicans for financial irresponsibility now facing a vote on a Balanced Budget Amendment. People like Biden then had to toe the line where they support fiscal responsibility but not in the fashion the Republicans did.

That would be a good argument if this clip wasn't of Biden proclaiming that he had gone above and beyond what his colleagues had proposed. Plus he didn't mention military spending. Happy New Year

The Trump mob can add Qassem Soleimani to their list of painted houses as Trump's weirdo Twitter friends are publishing pictures of his severed hand and Iraqi state TV is freaking out.

This has nothing to do with the power struggle to replace the prime minister that stepped down last month and stop Sairoon and Fatah from consolidating power again. It's totally just about retaliating against crazy random militia attacks against the US. They hit us first!

Not how saving images work; it’s just compressed.

Lazy loading will load a smaller, lower-res image before the larger one is done. If Trump is impatient (LOL) he probably went to save the image as soon as it appeared; if this were the case and he was on a poorer internet connection, it's likely he saved the low-res version, which would make the tweet correct.

I don’t think a single browser actually saves images mid-loading any file.  It would just continue to write to the file.

The file basically would lazy-save.

Super important stuff tho lol

Lazy loading works in JavaScript ("native" version that works without JS is coming soon.) Pseudocode to follow.

<img src="flag-low-res.jpg">

// When flag-low-res.jpg is done loading, swap it with the high-res version.
if (img.complete) {
  img.src = 'flag-high-res.jpg';
}

Glossing over some things but that's how it works. Sometimes. I'm not sure if Wiki uses lazy loading JS for images, but it's generally seen as a best practice.

This was very common during the Bush years. Anti-war activists were "objectively pro-Saddam," Dems who criticized the administration were giving "aid and comfort to the enemy," etc.

It's Imperialism full stop.

America first, indeed.

And yet no more wars, isolationism was one of the main Trump election issues and yet here we are, with Republicans defending this and accusing those that don't support this of being anti-american and it's not even noon yet.

Truly fascists.

kindasorta

He criticized the Iraq war(and lied about having opposed it at the time) because Jeb was nominally his biggest opponent, but he also kept doing the "shoulda taken the oil" bit, saying he'd withdraw from the JCPOA, and telling the (fake) story of a commander using bullets soaked in pigs blood to kill Muslim combatants.

To the degree there was anything making it all cohere it's his weird, childlike way of calculating material benefits and "deals," hence wanting NATO members to pay us, asking his advisers why we don't just seize Venezuela's oil, etc. Some people were so desperate to have an alternative to our forever wars (understandable!) that they talked themselves into him being an actual dove.

L.A. area is already $3.14 (and it was $3.60+ for a good month and higher in the summer). We're going back to plus $4+ on the coasts.

Why is everybody saying that Qasam Soleimani is a terrorist? Like what qualifies him for that?

Because he runs a military unit that trains militias? What the fuck does that make us, then?
