Quote
The president of United Steelworkers Local 227, Scott Sarge, stood up and explained that his father lost his job during the ’80s due to imports coming in. He noted that his father’s “story didn’t end” while thanking the president for the opportunity presented to his workers and union.

“Your father Herman is looking down,” Trump said. “he’s very proud of you.”

“He’s still alive,” Sarge responded.

Saving face, the president explained that Sarge’s father would be “even more proud” of him.

Guessing the market isn't going crazy because of the Canada+Mexico exemptions but apparently Trump had some reckless comments about NAFTA negotiations and leverage. We'll see tomorrow.

That still worries me. But he has the big problem that the Mexican president cannot afford looking weak either, regardless of stuff like this. People here are going to eat him and his party alive if they let Trump "a win".
He's the president of fucking Mexico, which is ran by drug cartels.

Although in some sense we did trade a box of cigars for Manhattan with the natives and then sold it to the British   :idont
He's already weak.  :doge

 :doge

You guys are not exactly blameless from many problems that Mexico has. People  here already blamed NAFTA for everything, so a shittier NAFTA is not going to get people happy here.
Our Tulip trade is pretty one sided but I don't think the Dutch have caused many of the problems Mexico faces today.

Talking about the US, obviously.

Do you think US is blameless for a lot of bad stuff in Latin America, for that matter?

Although in some sense we did trade a box of cigars for Manhattan with the natives and then sold it to the British   :idont

That is the European way, my dude.

Dont get me wrong, we are assholes around here, but people are not generally thrilled to be in fear of Cartels or having a shitty goverment.

It's weird talking to liberals who 1) do the ethical consumer thing, 2) argue that the war on drugs is harming Mexico and other developing countries, and 3) have no problem buying imported weed or coke.

Not saying that's a huge slice of the population, but they're out there.

Someone managed to take a picture

If Trump somehow is lucky enough to see North Korea give up its nukes during his first term ....

Welp, that settles the next election right there.

Donald Trump is going to make a deal with North Korea.

This can't be happen. It just can't.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
The North Koreans have figured out that giving Trump 'another win' and proving his Art of the Deal bullshit, will allow him to stay on as a president for 3 terms. And that serves them better than nukes ever will.

The problem is requiring he going to Korea to negotiate.

Seems that NK is appealing to his showman side than genuine intentions of talks.

Obviously they're not going to denuclearize and Trump visiting in person would be a diplomatic "win" for NK, but anything that lowers the chance of a preemptive war is fine by me.

The South Koreans are most bullish on this, which makes it weird. In fact Tillerson told reporters this morning that any negotiations with North Korea were still months if not years away.

That Erin Burnett quote lowers my opinion of her dramatically. It might be the single stupidest take of anything about Trump at this point, because at this point everyone knows he is an idiot. If something good comes out of it, it is because of 1 of 2 things:

1) blind luck, I.e. south and North Korea are ready to make a deal anyway, and Trump is just there at the right time, and manages not to blow it up with his own stupidity.
2) an authoritarian government in the region, like Russia and/or China muscles in on N Korea in an attempt to gain points with Trump so that he looks the other way on other, more important strategic US priorities, likely without Trump or his neophyte team even recognizing what they have done.

It’s crazy to me how much of this country thinks there is any merit to this strong arm negotiating tactic.

Counterpoint: Given everything we know about Trump, having a woman with big boobs on cable news say he'd be a great president for finding a peaceful resolution is maybe the most effective possible way of lobbying him.

What I've read today is that the Kim clan has been trying to set up a face-to-face meeting with an American President going back to Clinton, and that they would consider such a meeting to be a huge propaganda victory since they could twist it as NK forcing America to treat them as an equal. Trump's dumb enough to fall for something like this.
