Trump won't be primary'd. At this point it's clear the republican base is his base. Even during the 2016 primaries it became pretty clear when he was trouncing the field and getting nearly 40-50% of the vote in contests that featured a billion other candidates.

The Speaker of House does not have to be a member of the House, it's anyone who can command a majority of votes cast. But Trump couldn't nominate anyone without a proxy as only the members of the House can introduce nominees.

Also Trump hates Rand personally, so he might try and do this to him.

To build off PD's point. If you look at polls, an unnamed non-Trump candidate gets like 35% of the vote at most, when they start naming people like Cruz, Kasich, Flake or Ryan, Trump's support goes up and the other candidates poll like 15-20%. Pence is the only one who seems to hold down Trump's support, though it doesn't gain him as much as they just go undecided.

Of course, in 2014, Hillary had this same polling situation.

I don't remember people making conspiracy theories in support of the people in charge. Conspiracy theories to justify them, maybe (all the Al Qaeda-Iraq connections) but not elaborate stories about how behind the scenes, Bush/Obama/etc. had just ensured some huge victory but was keeping it secret.

Don’t know how close you have been following the court dram around stormy Daniels, but that shit is something else.

IANAL, but basically, last night Michael Cohens lawyer came on tv and said “oh, Trump didn’t even KNOW about the NDA, which is why he didn’t sign it”.

This has a lot of follow-on effects:
1) how can the NDA be valid, if one of the parties to it doesn’t even know it exists?
2) trump has certain responsibilities in the text of the NDA, if he didn’t sign it, then he is not bound by it, and neither is stormy.
3) if Cohen was inserting language about what Donald would or wouldn’t do into an NDA, he didn’t intend to have his client sign, then that’s possibly criminal fraud, and he will almost certainly was disbarred.

Also, on top of this, there is some growing evidence that Stormys original lawyer(who represented many of the accusers) was actually colluding with Cohen to convince his clients to sign NDAs that were really lowball offers, by suggesting that they had or would be committing crimes by talking about their stories.

Again, this whole thing is INSANE.

Assuming the source is legit and credible, that takes away the potential rationale that flipping Gates was about Manafort or money laundering and is in fact more in line with what Mueller's working history with plea deals has suggested, which is as a tool to climb the food chain.
