Though it's worth noting that wikileaks denied Guccifer 2 being the source.

Is it really, though?

I mean, if Wikileaks said it... case closed boys

wait...why even bring up wikileaks in response to this story? it's about who guccifer 2.0 is

we can assume wikileaks story to be 100% true, they didn't get the files from guccifer, a go-between was used, but wikileaks also won't say where they got the files so that's a null set

guccifer says it was the original source, robert stone essentially confirms this, wikileaks doesn't deny it (only that they got them from guccifer)

so we assume all that into evidence...there's still the question, and the content of the article, of who guccifer 2.0 is, we can neatly remove wikileaks entirely, and still answer that question or attempt to by looking at who is using the account no?

i'm just assuming you didn't look at the article, since it mentions wikileaks only as background information and half as often as it mentions roger stone neither of which are really core to the story, most of it is about some russian dope forgetting to turn on his VPN

Did Assange/WL ever deny Guccifer was the source of the leaks? I know Assange said it wasn't the Russian government, but couldn't find him addressing G2.0 directly in a few minutes of Googling.

Also I thought Guccifer leaked some of the documents before the big WL dump, but I wasn't following it that closely at the time.

All I could find was him essentially saying they will not reveal their sources, and lots of media people asking IS THE RUSSIANS and him going "personally i dunno, we don't reveal that anyway."

I feel so misled by etiolate. I had defended the go-between technically true theory before on the basis of Assange being a weasel before on here when he was arguing it with somebody probably Nola.

If I can't trust etiolate...

It makes sense, right?

Obviously I've no idea how these things work, but it seems like using an intermediary or a front of some kind would be a fairly obvious precaution to take, vs. "HACKED EMAILS COURTESY OF THE RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT" in the header.

Also it looks like G2.0 was leaking documents ahead of WL, so if not the original source, whoever was running that persona had received them concurrently or earlier than Assange.

I mean lets just keep in mind the timeline as well and recognize how absurd etiolate is once again being. As are pretty much any alternative scenarios at this point that claim alternative actors.

- The FBI had warned the DNC in late 2015 that at least one computer had been compromised by Russian hackers.

- They offer an additional warning a month later.

- John Podesta gets a phishing email in March 2016

- In April, a professor with ties to the Kremlin solicits Papodoupalos that he and Russia have dirt on Hillary Clinton in the way of thousands of emails.

- By June another representative of the Russians contacts Don Jr. about meeting with the explicit purpose of discussing these emails, "If its what you say thats great, especially later in the Summer."

- The first leaks finally happen on June 22. Weeks after the Don Jr. meeting.

- The next leaks happen in October-November.

- Then you have all of the surrounding evidence that points to Russia, the digital fingerprints that were identical to the hacks of the German Parliament that were conclusively determined to have been of Russian origin. The FBI warnings earlier where they directly saw the Russians infiltrating, all the details about the hacks themselves I once meticulously laid out for etiolate and provided the links. Even the completely obvious attempt to cover their tracks when the Russians quickly realized in their dump that they forgot to cover some of their tracks that identified work being done on Russian operating systems, but did hide that on subsequent batches.

So again, someone needs to explain why it was Russia that was identified by the FBI as having breached the DNC in 2015 and why months before Assange or anyone from Wikileaks had leaked anything, before anyone knew anything, before any conceivable timeline in any Seth Rich conspiracy I have heard, is Russia running around trying to establish a line of communication and coordination with the Trump campaign on the foundation of thousands of hacked emails?

Guess Republicans are trying to see if they can get this to be a big weekend kerfuffle:
Quote
A House Intelligence Committee investigation of Russian election meddling has concluded that former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper misled Congress about disclosing information to CNN.
...
On the former DNI, the report says that Clapper, now a contributor to CNN as a national security analyst "provided inconsistent testimony to the committee about his contacts with the media, including CNN."
you know House Republicans, THE DUDE COMMITTED PERJURY a few years back, the statute of limitations on it just ran out ten days ago, in hindsight you probably should have charged him before then, even had bipartisan support for at minimum a contempt charge! wouldn't have had this "leaks to CNN" national crisis in the first place

spoiler (click to show/hide)
it's exactly these types of issues that turn blacks off from their natural place as the vanguard of the Republican Party
spoiler (click to show/hide)
i'll only do one more if it's a good one :doge

No, I brag about my dog that much."

Desperately trying to drive down Hispanic turnout in the midterms. It won’t work. People know he created the DACA crisis.
It is stuff like this, that despite our slight disagreements on if Trump can win another term, does illustrate how he is doing anything but making it easy.

To this point, Trump won Florida by a little over 100,000 votes. Thanks to the disaster and continued mismanagement in Puerto Rico, Florida now has an influx of 300,000 displaced Puerto Rican’s and growing. Most of whom I would suspect are not very favorable toward the president. To a lesser extent Texas and Pennsylvania are also seeing a notable influx. Even if you assume only a fraction of them vote, that is still a real challenge if you are trying to win Florida a second time. Could even create problems in Pennsylvania.

Looking forward to the inevitable behind-the-scenes article from NYT/WaPo/etc detailing Mattis shit talking Bolton into oblivion during a cabinet meeting. Bolton is insane. Am I jumping over my couch afraid of nuclear war now, like some people on twitter? No...but...Bolton is insane. A few months ago there was a report on Mattis refusing to provide a potential gameplan for the US attacking Iranian ships that were (non-violently) antagonizing US ships. Trump wanted to know why we weren't attacking them, someone asked for a plan...nothing happened. I'd imagine Bolton will be pushing hard on that front because it's perhaps one of the easiest ways to spark a potential confrontation.

Quote
Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign was “foolish” not to mount a louder and longer defense of her government email troubles in its last weeks, when the FBI had suddenly reopened the issue and Donald Trump was using it to thrash Clinton daily, a top Clinton aide concludes in a new memoir.

Clinton herself had a gut feeling that she should be addressing the issue more forcefully in those closing days in 2016, but her campaign staff urged a strategy that would show her tackling policy questions that would matter if she won the White House, campaign communications director Jennifer Palmieri wrote.

“It was a mistake, although at the time it was hard to accept that telling Hillary to keep bringing up the emails herself could possibly be the right advice,” Palmieri wrote. “But I should have seen that, as unappealing as addressing the issue was, it was what voters needed to hear from Hillary at that moment. She got that.”

There's an accepted economic logic to it but it's really more of people repeating and extrapolating historical trends. Basically a recession (by the technical definition) has occurred at least once a decade in every decade in U.S. history. We haven't had one in the 2010s as the "Great Recession" technically ended in 2009.

The longest period between prior U.S. recessions was ten years, between the 1990-91 recession and 2001 recession. (Though it should be pointed out that seemingly the rest of our "half" of the planet had a major or near economic crisis in the late 1990s. Including like seven of our top ten trading partners.)

Another recession would lead to anarchy. Europe has just crawled out of the hole. This year we're finally seeing some economic improvement but all governments are broke.
- Ukraine would probably explode first as it solely depends on outside help
- Brexit plus recession would push the English over the edge
- The Middle East fresh from the Syrian war and Arab spring would see another shortage of food and medicine
- The Russian state, solely floating on the oil that isn't sanctioned would sink like a rock
- China, leveraged to hell and back to reach their economic goals would be thrown into a tailspin
- The Saudi's depending on the diversification of their economy with huge investments to offset their lower oil income would be fucked
- Venezuela would finally go down the tubes (and takes the rest of South America with it)
- North Korea would literally starve to death
- Japan is already dead

A global economic recession within in the next 2 years would be a biblical event.

I mean do you want the reporters to follow these kids around nonstop 24 hours while they go to school, take a shit, etc. They were covering them a lot because there was more activity surrounding them post shooting. When they doing something noteworthy, like today, they report on it.. Also, it's kind of weird to expect the news media to ignore the president of the U.S. But I agree with your general sentiment that news is trash.

He sounds nice except for the voting for Trump part, and the whole allowing 25% of the federal government...wait and not eliminating that 75%, just giving it to the states?!? This deal keeps getting worse all the time.
