AP: Black Americans aren’t buying Omarosa’s turn against Trump
Quote
“Her tell-all mea culpa won’t win her any brownie points with most blacks,” said Earl Ofari Hutchinson, author of the book “Why Black Lives Do Matter.” ″Their loathing of Omarosa is virtually frozen in stone. She’s still roundly lambasted as a two-bit opportunist, a racial sellout and an ego driven hustler.”

Few in the black community immediately rushed to defend Manigault Newman after she wrote a book titled “Unhinged” about her time in the White House.

...

“We should not mistake anything that has happened here as to be Omarosa in any way purporting be a benefit to the African-American community,” said Aisha Moodie-Mills, a Democratic strategist.

...

Raynard Jackson, a black Republican who has worked on GOP presidential, gubernatorial and local campaigns, said Manigault Newman secretly recording Trump and other White House officials will make her a pariah in conservative circles as well.

“There is absolutely no way she can redeem herself. Who is going to trust her ever again?” Jackson said. “Recording someone under these circumstances is the political equivalent of spitting on a man.”

Conservative commentator Armstrong Williams said he’s known Manigault Newman since she was 19 and will always consider her a friend. But “Omarosa can’t be trusted,” he said. “There’s an issue when you can’t be trusted and can’t be loyal.”

As her feud with Trump intensified, Manigault Newman’s relationship with the black community became the topic of many conversations among African-Americans, especially on social media. Some offered hope for Manigault Newman, however conditional.

If Omarosa “is the one to get some traction on people seeing how truly raggedy this administration is enough to take action... we should reconsider letting her get a to-go plate from the cookout. Someone can take it to her,” tweeted Bari A. Williams, an Oakland lawyer and business operations executive.
Well now that everyone hates Omarosa and the hustle is up only one thing for her left to do

While I think this is petty and dumb, it’s not really as big of a deal as a lot are wringing their hands over. It’s not like Brennan has a SIPR terminal and a scif in his basement. It’s quite likely he hasn’t interacted with ANY classified material since he left office.
What's amusing to me is the media response. They're supposed to be these experts and explaining why this is this grave crime and everything. But from what I understand, normally former officials and any other workers don't keep their security clearances and can just wander in and rummage through the files or pick up the hottest tips and cheat codes off the 1-900 CIA tipline. If they're needed back to consult or testify or whatever, the agencies can give them temporary grants even as short as a few hours to review material to a month or more if it's a larger case, etc. They can even totally waive the requirements, former Presidents commonly receive that treatment even though they never have been vetted for security clearances and received theirs simply for being President. They even have the power to grant restricted clearances so that say Brennan is only allowed to view stuff from during his term.

Them keeping their clearances was what's out of the norm and likely due to Trump Administration incompetency or something. Obama didn't to my knowledge sign anything to extend their clearances, so the onus must have been on the incoming Trump Administration to approve paperwork of some kind.

Just from a casual glance it seems more like a "bad optics" thing than anything deliberate as either side are painting it. The idea that they are using their clearances to get leaks that they give to their news networks is just as absurd, they're still LEAKING it, which is illegal, even if they're allowed to receive the information under their lingering clearance that just shifts the crime to themselves rather than the random CIA or NSA employee.

I don’t think it IS actually out of the norm.

Even once you leave a military position (or whatever) you keep your clearance so you don’t have to be re-cleared if you find a new job. You are just read out of all the programs you have access to and you’re put in some kind of inactive status (not sure what the technical term is). This is going to be the status of most of the people on that list. Nothing is really done to “preserve” their clearance but they don’t have access and they don’t have need-to-know, so they can’t easily use that clearance (unless they get another job where they would... which is possible for some).

I think only people like Secstste, NSA, or DNi actually keep their clearances in an active stays, but this is mostly so that the new people in their position have a means to discuss stuff with their predecessors because there are not a lot of people with that experience.

Well, this was the article I read that I was trying to remember the details of from a few weeks ago, not five minutes as coward soyboys might claim, and reviewing it I see that your pedantry tops my pedantry because I conflated terms regarding clearance, eligibility, access and records while your more distinct separation is more accurate: https://www.lawfareblog.com/can-president-revoke-former-officials-security-clearances

I also had forgot that most clearances have terms that automatically expire. That would explain it.

We had a Pac-Man machine too at some point but the store manager at the time monopolized it and never did anything. Unfortunately this was an upgrade over his predecessor who kept a secondary executive with a drug problem on staff (but didn't try to help them beat it)
wait, beat the drug problem or Pac-Man?

I had a clearance for a long time in the military so have a good amount of first hand experience with it
and how it works. Reporting on clearance is consistently awful.

One thing I don’t think people didn’t fully appreciate about the Hillary Email thing is that it actually was kind of s big deal from the perspective of anybody that has actually ever worked in a SCIF or had any kind of clearance whatsoever. Maybe not illegal but from my perspective it still seems grossly negligent.... and the idea that she doesn’t know what the classification markings meant seems implausible.

Obvi still voted for Queen over Trump tho.

This orchestrated effort by the US press all publishing editorials about Trump's critique of the press might be one of the stupidest fucking things to do.  This gives Trump more than enough ammo and circumstantial evidence to point at all of these editorials and be all "see!  the fake news media colludes against me with the corrupt and evil democrats!"

They keep doing this because they need to sell newspapers/TV ads/Online ads and circle the wagons.
Trump kicked out a CNN reporter. no one cared. And the reporter was back the next day.

If anything Trump is keeping the 'FAKE NEWS' alive by generating so much of it. He knows the press can't ignore a flaming train wreck when they see one.
And every time he insults Acosta it shows 'the people' that he's fighting for them against the elites. When Acosta starts shouting questions at the President he can sell himself as the #resistance.

Meanwhile the deep state #resistance like Brennan either peddles their Russia theories to CNN or starts to monetize the crazy by writing books (Seth is going to turn his Twitter threads into a book / Schindler has a paid premium Twitter account) or they just straight up start raising money for 'something'.

Strzok's net worth was $1.4 million. He's now heading towards $2 million. He's fired from the FBI but there's no lawsuit or anything running against him.
The only person who has not been told this is all a racket is Sarah Sanders.  :doge

Even Trump supporters know at some level. Acosta got the 'fake news' screaming shower at a rally while the camera was rolling. Afterwards the Trump people took selfies with him and their MAGA hats.

A good example of this is that Washington Post article about Kell Anne Conway and her husband where she tried to go off the record mid-interview and the reporter wasn’t having it and published the whole exchange where she says “as somebody who knows about their marriage, you could say it’s breaking their marital vows”.

It gives you a view into how the Trump team manipulates the press into creating a narrative that they can work with as a foil. There is no way that Trump/Kellyanne/whoever is not feeding salacious quotes to the Wapo on Tuesday and then calling the article fake news on Thursday.

I don't get it, they wanted her to work on the Trump re-election campaign after they fired her?
They wanted her to not leak things she had recorded and seen while accomplishing nothing.

So the Trump Org. excuse me 'administration/government' decided they could hire her on the campaign team for $180 000 a/year to pay for her silence.

Seems like an insultingly low amount to pay off someone. But then again, Trump has been stingy with the hush money, see Stormy Daniels.

Congressmen do have those weird party quotas they have to meet though: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/60-minutes-are-members-of-congress-becoming-telemarketers/
Quote
Rep. David Jolly: We sat behind closed doors at one of the party headquarter back rooms in front of a white board where the equation was drawn out. You have six months until the election. Break that down to having to raise $2 million in the next six months. And your job, new member of Congress, is to raise $18,000 a day. Your first responsibility is to make sure you hit $18,000 a day.

Norah O'Donnell: Your first responsibility--

Rep. David Jolly: My first responsibility--

Norah O'Donnell: --as a congressman?

Rep. David Jolly: --as a sitting member of Congress.

Norah O'Donnell: How were you supposed to raise $18,000 a day?

Rep. David Jolly: Simply by calling people, cold-calling a list that fundraisers put in front of you, you're presented with their biography. So please call John. He's married to Sally. His daughter, Emma, just graduated from high school. They gave $18,000 last year to different candidates. They can give you $1,000 too if you ask them to. And they put you on the phone. And it's a script.
Quote
Rep. David Jolly: The House schedule is actually arranged, in some ways, around fundraising.

Norah O'Donnell: You're telling me the whole schedule of how work gets done is scheduled around fundraising?

Rep. David Jolly: That's right. You never see a committee working through lunch because those are your fundraising times. And then in between afternoon votes and evening votes, that's when you can see Democrats walking down this street, Republicans walking down that street to spend time on the phone making phone calls.

By law, members of Congress cannot make fundraising calls from their offices. So both parties have set up "call centers" just a few blocks away. This is where the Republicans have theirs.

Norah O'Donnell: So can I go in there?

Rep. David Jolly: I don't think they would let either one of us in here, at this point. Remember I stopped paying my dues.

What Jolly means is that in addition to raising money for their own campaigns, members are supposed to raise thousands of dollars for their parties. That's their dues. If Republican members don't pay up, they can't use the party's call suites. No photos exist of the inside of either the Democratic or Republican centers.

It's all fun and games until Omarosa releases her next tape exclusively on CNN TOMORROW NIGHT AT 9PM in which she reveals she had reservations about Trump from the very beginning. The tape, dated September 2007, includes the following excerpt: "Donald Trump is not qualified to be president and is a terrible man, but I fear I must help him in order to provide for myself in this capitalist society. One day, perhaps in 2016, he will run for president, and the country will suffer."

I'm probably mistaken as usual, but from those questions it looks like what the Judge was complaining to the prosecutors about last week or whenever, that they were making their case too complex by trying to include all kinds of irrelevant information that they weren't charging based on. I wonder if that's why the defense rested so quickly, maybe they were betting the prosecutors had screwed themselves.

That's not what I was implying at all. Any defense of Manafort would have to start to begin to explain his crimes and other near crimes among all the other things the prosecution brought up. If the prosecution has derailed their own case on the charges he's facing, the defense's best move is not to re-litigate those at a further length. Especially when Gates was in many ways an effective witness for themselves. Manafort's lawyers know he's guilty so their goal would never be to make him appear innocent but instead to muddle and introduce confusion into the case. They just happened to get prosecutors who were willing to do most of that legwork themselves by chasing all the arcane pathways they aren't charging him for.

You know, that whole if the law is against you, if the facts are against you, argue until confusion and all that.

Simplest explanation is that they couldn't find out who QAnon was in time for him to testify.

Manafort might also be holding out for a presidential pardon. If he kept his mouth shut Trump might see that as 'loyalty' and so far there has been nothing in this case that links Manafort to any of the alleged wrongdoings of the Trump campaign.

In any case they should've just presented his fraud and have Rick Gates say 'y/n'.
But instead we had the double whammy of Gates fucking over Manafort by using his money to fund his affairs abroad and the prosecutors trying to connect all sorts of dots.

I bet the jury didn't really understand all the details in the case (even the judge had trouble figuring out the relevant bits).

It could also be that the jury has been compromised by the Russians.

From the "leak" it sounded more like he was trying to strongly suggest to the prosecution that they were complicating their own case and should focus on the slam dunk parts.

Now the jury seems to want basic details explained.

Quote
WASHINGTON—Insisting that it had to be in the audio recordings made during her time in the administration, Omarosa Manigault-Newman was frantically searching Tuesday through tapes of everyone else in the White House using the N-word for one of President Trump uttering the racial slur. “C’mon, c’mon, I know Trump’s in here somewhere,” said Manigault-Newman as she fast-forwarded through a recording of Stephen Miller and Jeff Sessions casually using the racial slur during a conversation in the West Wing. “I’ve got hours of John Kelly dropping N-bombs and a several where Trump is in the room when Bannon yells it, but I haven’t found any of the president yet. One tape seemed promising, but there’s a lot of crosstalk where everybody in the room was saying the N-word over each other, so you can’t make out Trump clearly. Ugh, this is going to take forever.” At press time, Manigault-Newman was forced to keep looking after all that turned up so far were two dozen recordings of Trump saying “wetback” and “dune coon.”

Source present at the time tell The Daily Beast that multiple people—including Vietnam War veterans—chimed in to inform the president that the Apocalypse Now set piece he was talking about showcased the U.S. military using napalm, not Agent Orange.

Trump refused to accept that he was mistaken and proceeded to say things like, “no, I think it’s that stuff from that movie.”

One clue belying the president’s insistence is that the famous Robert Duvall line from the scene in Apocalypse Now, “I love the smell of napalm in the morning,” is not “I love the smell of Agent Orange in the morning.”

According to two people in attendance, Trump then flippantly replied to the Vietnam vet, “Well, I think you just didn’t like the movie,” before finally moving on.

Mattis, who spoke before the announcement that the parade would not happen in 2018, added: “I’m not dignifying that number ($92 million) with a reply. I would discount that, and anybody who said (that number), I’ll almost guarantee you one thing: They probably said, ‘I need to stay anonymous.’ No kidding, because you look like an idiot. And No. 2, whoever wrote it needs to get better sources. I’ll just leave it at that.”

12 hours later: “We cancelled the $92 Million parade.”

#FREEMANAFORT :dice

I'm seeing op-eds everywhere that the judge was 'biased' because he intervened. Those numbskulls don't grasp what Manafort's defense figured out when they walked into that court room and took a look at the jury
