That's 20M sales in the past 1.5 years.

GTAVI will probably come out in 2025, once GTAV finally stops selling, with an LTD of 150M or something.

Rockstar really are completely fucking stupid for getting rid of Leslie Benzies.

Most of those sales are directly attributed to Benzies' GTA Online project and the utterly insane cash cow it's become.

IIRC, Rockstar had this policy for a long time that most everything had to go through the Houser brothers. That's why they were the only people ever quoted and doing media and stuff.

I see Benzies is suing them for $150 million in unpaid royalties. And that Rockstar has responded by countersuing him for compensatory damages.

Anyone interested in the inner workings of Rockstar should take a look at Jacked: The Outlaw Story of Grand Theft Auto, a revealing book by the journalist David Kushner.

In an interview with Polygon, Kushner said that when he was researching the book, he was only able to speak to former employees.

"It's like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory there," he said. "People go in and they don't come out. And you never get to see how the chocolate gets made.

"You have to rely on former employees to talk. People who work there are afraid to talk," he added.

When Red Dead Redemption was in production, the Housers were in charge. Benzies had no role in its making until, he says, things started to fall apart

Benzies alleges that Sam Houser sent him the following email message. "PLEASE help me/us get [Read Dead Redemption] into shape. I am a jabbering wreck right now. I need The Benz!" The way he tells it, 'the Benz' stepped in and saved the day.

The relationship seems to have broken down in the wake of GTA Online, a multiplayer component of GTA 5, released just after that game's launch.

"The Houser brothers had little interest in GTA Online, and did not focus on its development," according to Benzies. Even so, when Benzies placed his name in the prize spot at the end in the opening credits, a place usually taken by Sam Houser, it caused friction.

Benzies alleges that Sam Houser was unhappy about this. "He claimed to have noticed it only after it had already been released," says the lawsuit. "If true, this would mean that he had not played or even viewed the game pre-release, or else he would have seen the opening credits."

The suit claims that Jennifer Kolbe, a Rockstar executive, reported Sam Houser's unhappiness to Benzies, quoting him as saying that Benzies "wanted to take over the company."

I remember reading an article about GTAV sales spikes being tied to new consoles for a while? Regardless, I'm not shocked that it keeps selling given my time in GTAO drop lobbies

In 2012, I was set to interview for a position at R* San Diego but, before we could meet, it ended up being redefined two more times into something I didn't want to do. I demurred.

After I took a job elsewhere, I learned that a co-worker at my new job had came from Rockstar; I praised their work-to-date, and in return they educated me about the work environment there. Apparently I had seriously dodged a bullet. Everybody wants to be known for their work on a landmark franchise; why not just do the work, build your reputation with co-workers as a trustworthy and supportive team member? That strategy pays off, but grandstanding prima donnas are :foreveralone.gif

They've always put out great games but I've always heard shady shit internally from people who work at Take 2 or Rockstar. Especially the lower you go on the food chain

The stories I've heard about RDR's development are nightmarish. There's a lot of reasons we never saw ports of that game.

Yeah, I interviewed there in 2013. Didn't pan out fortunately; sounds like a real shit show there. At least the game is great!

The stories I've heard about RDR's development are nightmarish. There's a lot of reasons we never saw ports of that game.
They've all but admitted there's no PC port because it's so hacked together to just barely work on the consoles. Former workers have suggested as much as well. I've heard they completely changed a lot of the work order systems for Max Payne 3 going forward because of the nightmare it was and that's why the PC ports have been so good since.

The guy doing that 360 emulator that lots of people have posted creepy videos of it running the RDR intro has more or less confirmed it and suggested that if he gets it to work emulating most other games won't be too difficult to get running.
