This could probably just go in the "Triumph of the day" thread, but fuck it, we need more thread creation here! You can't tell me what to do!

I got a promotion at work! I was notified about it a month ago, but it finally became official this week.
It's Constable Boogie no more! Just made Corporal!
Ahem, anyway.
At the risk of overexplaining the promotion, and ending up sounding conceited, in Mountie-land, you are not even eligible for promotion until you hit 7 years of service. After that, you have to wait for specific promotional jobs to be offered, and then you have to compete with others to get the spot.
Probably about half of officers never bother to promote, and stay a constable for their entire careers. For those that do hit at least Corporal, the average length of service when they hit Corporal is 12-13 years-ish.
So I feel that for me to get that first bump at 9 years in is pretty good.

The only thing is that I'm going from a "front line" investigative unit, to a support unit, a legal application support team. So no more actually chasing bad guys for me for a few years, instead it will be 100% paper writing, or advising and mentoring other warrant writers for investigations.
It's actually a little intimidating getting put in a position where I will be considered a, God-help-me, expert in the subject.

But I'm also looking forward to the challenge.
