Climbing the ladder

This could probably just go in the "Triumph of the day" thread, but fuck it, we need more thread creation here!  You can't tell me what to do!  :punch

I got a promotion at work!   I was notified about it a month ago, but it finally became official this week.

It's Constable Boogie no more!  Just made Corporal!

spoiler (click to show/hide)
*MilitaryBore immediately starts snickering: "you're bragging just about making Corporal?!  :lol*

Quiet, you!  The ranks mean different things in Mountie-land! Stop teasing me!  :-[      ;)
[close]

Ahem, anyway.

At the risk of overexplaining the promotion, and ending up sounding conceited, in Mountie-land, you are not even eligible for promotion until you hit 7 years of service.  After that, you have to wait for specific promotional jobs to be offered, and then you have to compete with others to get the spot.

Probably about half of officers never bother to promote, and stay a constable for their entire careers.  For those that do hit at least Corporal, the average length of service when they hit Corporal is 12-13 years-ish.

So I feel that for me to get that first bump at 9 years in is pretty good.  :)

The only thing is that I'm going from a "front line" investigative unit, to a support unit, a legal application support team.  So no more actually chasing bad guys for me for a few years, instead it will be 100% paper writing, or advising and mentoring other warrant writers for investigations.

It's actually a little intimidating getting put in a position where I will be considered a, God-help-me, expert in the subject.   :whew

But I'm also looking forward to the challenge.

Oh, also comes with a small bump in salary.  Nothing to be doing cartwheels about, though.

If you ever need some extra cash, you could become a Mountie-themed stripper on the side under the name Corporal Punishment. :whew

haha, that's just one step too far out of the comfort zone here.   :-*

I think I've only ever posted one photo of me in uniform on the board, and it was a group shot.

Awesome! Congrats good sir.

When do you think the BJJ black belt will be happening?

Thanks. :)

The black belt will still be a while, I think.  Just joined my new club five months ago, so their head instructor will want to take his time, make sure I'm sticking around with them for a bit before I get that tap on the shoulder.

Do your pants get more or less puffy with rank?

Pant puffiness stays the same, shoulders and arms get more cluttered with decoration though.  :P

Also now that you are in the know, when are they going to bring back Due South?

You know, with all the 90s nostalgia and remake craziness, it is a wonder that they haven't tried that with Due South yet.

You can replace Brendan Frasier in the Dudley Do-Right remake.

Well, I am rapidly approaching the same hairline as him, so there's that.

I can.....afford to buy a fancier futon for said purposes?

Can we cuddle?

Yes.

But cuddling privileges does not get you free room and board.
