LMS was indeed eerily similar to Vacation but Vacation was like 30 years ago.

The 2000's have lacked good road trip family comedies and LMS was extremely well done in that regard. Oscar worthy? Nah but fantastic warm and fuzzy movie. Something this decade has lacked.

Okay, let's try this again. This time, no cock waving. Recording a shit load of movies today on AMC and International Movies or whatever on DVR. I'll update later. Stuff like Amelie will be recorded, which I'm pretty sure will end up sucking.

I recorded a shit load of movies yesterday on dvr. Amelie, Jersey Girl, McQ, The Good Thief, and more across IFC, AMC, and other movie channels. I also went to Wal Mart and Best Buy and got 4 dvds: Blade Runner, Dune, Donnie Darko, and Full Metal Jacket.

I watched Amelie and Blade Runner last night.

I enjoyed Amelie. Not really paying attention to what the movie was about or where it was from before viewing it, I didn't know what to expect. For what it was, it was highly enjoyable, though it eventually turned into a typical romance flick. I thought the humor was well played, but it definitely wasn't ball busting laugh out loud humor. It was a fun flick, and I enjoyed it.

3/5

Blade Runner was pretty disappointing. I probably just came in with certain expectations but it wasn't as good as I hoped. The action was good, the first scene was very well directed, and the ending with the last Replicant was crazy. Like Apocalypse Now, I probably didn't fully understand it by the end, but that ending sure didn't help things. I got the Directors Cut dvd, and that ending really wasn't liking.

The characters weren't really appealing, and the acting was questionable. I not once got any emotion through the story. In many cases, I felt it was dry and could have better developed.

Throughout the movie I was constantly being reminded of current cyber punk/futuristic movies and stories and realized a lot of them drew inspiration from Blade Runner. But even since this movie's release, many have done it so much better. While an enjoyable movie, I don't find it to be the classic people describe it to be.

3/5

I'm going to watch Full Metal Jacket and Donnie Darko today. Those are two movies I highly anticipate watching for the first time. I was going to get Vertigo and Psycho, but then I saw a couple of movies I was more interested in. Sucks I went to Wal Mart first, because Best Buy had Dollars trilogy for 25 bucks.

That seems about right. Very disappointing movie to me. It was "good" but I expected so much more. It starts out great, especially with that interview scene. The scene where Harrison gets his mission is also good, as is the next one where he visits the creator of the replicants.

But there's so much meh stuff after that

Yeah, I agree with your post PD. You can tell that Blade Runner was one of the pioneers in this whole style of story telling, but I've seen it done so much better since it's creation so I left the movie not overly impressed.

I only have one problem with blade runner. I wish they kept the original title isntead of changing it to seem more mainstream. It was great.

Originally a dumbass tacked-on "family friendly" ending showed them driving through some nice scenic bullshit. The way the ending is now, though, is more ambiguous (and ALOT better): does Deckard kill Rachel, or does he allow her to live her short, insignificant life out of love?

I feel personally insulted by this thread. There are so many great moments in TLA courtesy of Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, and Willem Dafoe that to say it isn't funny at all is commiting to a falsity on par with the lunar landing.

I think where the movie will ultimately fail for most people is that it's largely reliant on its characters, as are the rest of Anderson's flicks. The problem here, much like the Royal Tenenbaums, is that they're rarely relatable. If the mere sight of Bill Murray in a speedo makes your groin swell as much as it does mine, then that's fantastic. If not, failure total, but you should still get some kicks out of Willem Dafoe. Also, best use of Bowie in a soundtrack and this is undeniable.

Oh, and I didn't see it mentioned, but if you dig the Dollar trilogy, Himuro, you should definitely check out Once Upon A Time In The West. As much as I love TGTBATU, I think this one trumps it.

Where is this overrated business coming from? It has a 52% on Rotten Tomatoes and is generally considered to be the absolute worst Wes Anderson film. Your distinguished mentally-challenged friends hyping a movie doesn't qualify it for the "overrated" badge of dishonor.

ACM is playing 2001 this Saturday. I plan on catching it.

I watched Click yesterday. I think it was okay. Definitely better than recent Sandler movies, but that's not exactly saying much. I would like to see a more serious take on the subject matter, because it's definitely interesting and something I think think a lot of us can relate to. One good thing that turned out of this movie was the Christopher fucking Walken actually had a role instead of a stupid cameo.
