I recorded a shit load of movies yesterday on dvr. Amelie, Jersey Girl, McQ, The Good Thief, and more across IFC, AMC, and other movie channels. I also went to Wal Mart and Best Buy and got 4 dvds: Blade Runner, Dune, Donnie Darko, and Full Metal Jacket.
I watched Amelie and Blade Runner last night.
I enjoyed Amelie. Not really paying attention to what the movie was about or where it was from before viewing it, I didn't know what to expect. For what it was, it was highly enjoyable, though it eventually turned into a typical romance flick. I thought the humor was well played, but it definitely wasn't ball busting laugh out loud humor. It was a fun flick, and I enjoyed it.
3/5
Blade Runner was pretty disappointing. I probably just came in with certain expectations but it wasn't as good as I hoped. The action was good, the first scene was very well directed, and the ending with the last Replicant was crazy. Like Apocalypse Now, I probably didn't fully understand it by the end, but that ending sure didn't help things. I got the Directors Cut dvd, and that ending really wasn't liking.
The characters weren't really appealing, and the acting was questionable. I not once got any emotion through the story. In many cases, I felt it was dry and could have better developed.
Throughout the movie I was constantly being reminded of current cyber punk/futuristic movies and stories and realized a lot of them drew inspiration from Blade Runner. But even since this movie's release, many have done it so much better. While an enjoyable movie, I don't find it to be the classic people describe it to be.

I'm going to watch Full Metal Jacket and Donnie Darko today. Those are two movies I highly anticipate watching for the first time. I was going to get Vertigo and Psycho, but then I saw a couple of movies I was more interested in. Sucks I went to Wal Mart first, because Best Buy had Dollars trilogy for 25 bucks.
