Personally even a top 5 would be really difficult, but I have to go with Hercules, Lilo & Stitch, and Big Hero 6.

Aladdin for my obvious pick. It's just a good, fun movie with two comedians lending an air of goofy energy whenever they're onscreen. Great songs, too, and a great feeling of being in a different and strange place [medieval Arabia].

One of my less obvious picks is Fantasia [and I'm going to include Fantasia 2000 in with this] as being just a wonderful expression of artistic animation combined with stirring classical music to tell great stories. Night on Bald Mountain? Yes, please.

And my third, also a less obvious choice, is The Great Mouse Detective. It just doesn't get nearly enough love, in my opinion, but maybe I'm just in the minority because I really love Sherlock Holmes-style mysteries, which this does a great job of replicating. Vincent Price as Ratigan is really great, I could watch him in just about anything. Also, it was right in the middle of a period where Disney movies could get pretty dark at times.

Lion King.

The part where the Hyenas eat Scar and then the rain falls and washes away the ruined Pride Rock, and Simba steps up to the mountain with that fucking music playing was the first time I experienced chills while watching a film and just thinking about now still gives them. It was the moment I knew I wanted to be an animator. What a fucking scene.

Worst Disney movie is Robin Hood or Atlantis. Both are from eras when their movies weren't as profitable or things were down in the industry.

Responses to this poll revolt me. Especially because I for some reason responded.

I used to date a guy that’s now a manager or something for some world at Disneyworld. He gets off with interacting with the fans still. He used to be cool and fed me lots of ecstasy. I think he fried his brain somewhere along the line.

How is Sleeping Beauty an oddball choice?

"Best Beatles album? I'm going to go with a real dark horse choice here and say Abbey Road."

I think Sleeping Beauty is a non-orthodox choice because outside the visuals it's kinda a slow and a bit dull film. It's classic for its time, but content-wise I wouldn't put it anywhere near the top-10 or even probably top 15 disney films. Yet the art is so incredible I'd rather re-watch it than almost any other Disney film because the backgrounds paintings are just so damn gorgeous.

I didn't like it as much as I'd hoped. I keep meaning to go back and give it another try. Visually, it's awesome. I think it was the Aladdin team? Or I thought it was… and that made my expectations unrealistic.

Fantasia is the GOAT (and the one I voted for) but it's a tough question.

I have a fondness for the Jungle Book because some of the characters were rerolled into TailSpin decades later.  Lion King is also up there.

Beauty and the Beast is overrated.

Also, Kronk's new groove was actually a pretty decent follow up to Emperor.

The first Witch Mountain is fairly good and weird, too. I liked that period where they made off kilter flicks. See also Return to Oz, Tron, Something Wicked This Way Comes (alright maybe this one is less off kilter, but it's still a dark kid's flick), Flight of the Navigator (it's kinda weird), Roger Rabbit (a co-production I believe, but still).

I swear the animation renaissance set them back in some ways, as though they realized they could make more money off less thematically kooky stuff. I bet even Roger Rabbit would never have been made if it didn't precede the renaissance.

What's the worst Disney movie? Probably Pocahontas, right? That movie was pretty garbo, especially coming off Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin, and Lion King. Paint with all the colors of deez nuts.
Funny enough, at least according to a few books and other stuff I've read, Pocahontas was internally considered to be their major EVENT blockbuster after Beast started the revival period that would lead to a whole chain of new Disney golden age like blockbusters copying it. It wound up with all the "best" people working on it in terms of artists and stuff. The Lion King was a lower tier side project that eventually got promoted to fill a gap in the schedule as Pocahontas hit a ocean full of delays.

This is also part of why there's only the seemingly unfinished Genesis version of the tie-in game. Unlike Aladdin and Lion King, the Disney people working on the film didn't help out by sending over drawings, music, etc. so it launched in January (seven months after the movie) rather than before Christmas during the wave of Pocahontas merchandise mania that never happened anyway at the stores.

Also, is it The Rescuers or The Rescuers Down Under that's weirdly dark and brutal.

I like the Hercules cartoon series more than I did the movie. James Woods actually continued to voice Hades, and the show took the Olympian Gods in general in more of a traditional direction. Also, IIRC it did a whole bunch of Greekified parodies of modern stuff that were voiced by the actual people because James Woods would get them to do it. At least what I watched of it while playing Civ II and DoD betas in the afternoons.

Since James Woods signed to voice Hades again, along with most of the cast of the film, many big-name actors were interested in taking part on the show. Over 150 celebrities took a part in the series, some self-lampooning: Merv Griffin played a griffin talk show host, game show host Wink Martindale played a riddle-expert sphinx and Mike Connors, famous for Mannix, played Athenian policeman Chipacles (named after CHiPs).
