My work was closed for 10 days.  I actually started to go stir crazy... until the streets opened up and then I could leave the house.  Then I didn't want to go back.

Some of them are in the article you linked. :lol

Can't blame them though.

Hope they get a massive fine + a hefty amount of mandatory community service hours, in animal shelters. Cunts.

Like, I can understand that it's not easy to evacuate with animals and I've got sympathy for people that have to make really tough decisions in that regard. But the people who left their animals tied up to trees and cars? Nah, no sympathy there.

Find the next hurricane, and leave the owners chained to trees and cars.

Be humane though: give them a steak knife.

These tropical storms becoming major hurricanes at the drop of a hat is the stuff of nightmares.

I remember when Patricia turned from nothing into a CAT 5 in the span of a day off the Pacific Coast of Mexico and thinking "thank god that shit doesn't happen in the Atlantic". It's happened multiple times this year, Maria pulled a Patricia and blew up into a CAT5. Harvey rapidly strengthened into a 4 before landfall too. This scary stuff is the present and future.

Best of luck to anyone in Puerto Rico.

Maria made landfall on the SE side of Dominica and suddenly shifted NNW, resulting in the eye swiping over the majority of the island. There probably won't be much left...
Guadeloupe got battered by the NE quadrant, still a good distance from the eye. There's some footage of it online and it's not pretty, so I can only imagine how it went in Dominica (with winds at 180mph...).

It dropped to a strong Cat 4 but that was expected considering that it went over mountains peaking at 1500m. As of now it's tracking to restrengthen to a Cat5, hit the Virgin Islands and go right over San Juan PR.

I know this is the bad weather megathread, but is anybody else greatly disturbed that President Trump is in office while all this bad shit is happening at home and to the rest of the world? Any other President we would be leaving humanitarian efforts to help these places, instead we have the insular xenophobic prat in office.

Maria is now in the top 10 for most intense Atlantic hurricanes by pressure. 908 mb and still dropping.

The 175 mph winds tie it with Katrina, Andrew and Camille.

I never realized how small PR actually is. 30 miles N/S and 90 miles E/W.  It's only about the size of a small NE state.

Roughly the same size as Connecticut.
