Like I mentioned on the last page, I think if more people stuck around and slowly pressed for changes peacefully, it's possible Evilore would have listened and amends could have been made despite the initial resistance.

And while politics is still banned, this whole controversy was an eyeopener as to why we need to watch both sides of the aisle carefully.

Looking at the Wolfenstein thread, I'd prob get a ban or warning at RE for this: I'm shocked and grossed out over the blatant consumerism and hijacking of anger to sell you a video game and people are lapping it up like the marketing team are fighting with them in the streets. True RESISTers would be disgusted instead of happy to have their anger and fears used for the marketing of a kideo game.

If it was truly a wholesome community as many on the other side like to think, why didn't people start bounding up and demanding/negotiating changes be made before each going out in a fit of rage? What's the point? So we could have a different site owner/owners? I thought the problem wasn't so much that it was one man who had all the power, but more so that, and also the policies and rules had issues.

Because seizing the means of forum content production was really just clicking stuff for 48h, be semi-literate in webcode & fronting a bit of cash, all from the comfort of your desk with a mug of hot coffee at arm's length.

Paywall archives. Have users pay for a subscription ("yearly"). Each user can access and download his/her entire post history. If possible leave this archive open for banned users.

I joined gaf in 2005, which if I recall correctly, had a membership of around 20k people. About the same as ERA has right now. And GAF was already super active back then. I figure even if ERA doesn't get that many more people (pretty much impossible, of course), they seem to have enough momentum now that they can go on living for years now.

I started lurking GAF around 2006, I think, and it was very much how you say it was. I didn't actually register until 2009.
