Divert attention away from the poor, innocent corporations by bringing up the dreaded gamergate. This is the gaffest post I've seen in a while.
Until every single Gator is held accountable for their actions (including getting Trump elected), we really shouldn't be having discussions about video games anyway.

Anyone taking shots at the predatory behaviors of these billion dollar corporations are probably alt-right nazis anyway. Don't disagree with me and make me pull receipts, I'm sure there are some problematic posts in your history.

No sympathy, you should have ignored Polygon years ago already.

I had to remove Polygon as a source after these two headlines today

not sure what's worse, the fact that you used Polygon as a source at all or that you didn't stop until today...

The Bore is the the last forum I even bother with, cause y'all at least have personality. And this place is largely self-moderated. I hated the trend of forums to be so severely over-moderated as to have no actual human interactions, just varying degrees of talking over and at one another.

GAF's userbase also just keeps getting old and older.  You can tell this by how they react to modern gaming trends like Twitch and Minecraft.  They are clueless.  Nothing wrong with having a place for old gaming geezers to talk, but I'm not sure how big of a business it can be.  Maybe I'm wrong since older geeks spend tons of money on crap and EL can make bank on that demographic via digital ads.

However, I can't see it growing.  Forums are outdated.  I also remember when it took ages to get approved. Now it's rather easy.  But I bet most juniors are just alts or formerly banned members.

I go to restaurants alone every so often and its not bad at all. You can sit at the bar and watch tv, or just get a table. The wait staff tends to treat you a bit better too, since they either feel sorry for you or think you're a food critic.

The Blade Runner PC game is owned partly by EA (it was a Westwood product), that blocked GOG a few years ago. But they should ask again because since then EA has put all their old games on GOG too after realizing Origin Classics wasn't going to be a thing. The other stuff from that era like Wing Commander IV, etc. that was four or more discs of movies around gameplay is all on GOG already, not to mention even more recent stuff like Jade Empire, Crysis, The Saboteur, first Dragon Age, Spore. I have to imagine the two of them could convince the Blade Runner Foundation to let them put out the old game. And EA clearly has no problems with GOG fixing their old games for them.

Though this is probably the TRUE Blade Runner game someone demanding of the truth to the original art like Wrath really would want: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blade_Runner_(1985_video_game)
Quote
The game is "inspired by the Vangelis [sic] soundtrack" of the 1982 Blade Runner movie. The publisher was unable to obtain rights to the actual movie, so the game was instead said to be based on the soundtrack. The inlay stated that it was a "video game interpretation of the film score".

As a consultant I'm constantly alone in restaurants and hate it. Yeah, they do treat you better but I don't like eating in a room full of people alone. I'll gladly pay for people's dinner so that I don't have to sit alone. Just me though.

To be honest, at this point, whether  it's true or not, Lore should acknowledge and make a statement about that alleged Spanish anecdote because it's a PR drama bomb in waiting. The gossiping is only gonna grow

Especially with 2017 turning into the year of sexual scandal revelations, with those stories about that screenjunkie guy, Harry Knowles, the miramax guy. Journos and the gaming twitter scene are just HUNGRY for juicy stories like that.

:doge but then again, it's not even  on the same level of wrongdoing compared to those shitheads who abused women.

But still, neogaf is still a big name. And having the mods doing this pseudo cleanup" with deleting posts specifically is gonna look bad. Especially when you see how many gaffers were angry at the Alama Drafthouse for "covering up" for that Knowles dude.

Especially with how lots of gaffers consider the forum to be their family. There is so much emotional attachment built-up.. Some people are gonna lose their shit.

It's a pretty damn complicated situation  :idont

I disagree with almost all of this post.  Rumors and stories have been written about it for five years and nobody is doing anything about it because NeoGAF is not a big name in 2017.  It's reputation precedes itself and not in a good way.  There's a reason why just about anyone associated with the gaming industry (except that sadsack loser Frank O'Connor) left a long time ago.  Anyone with a professional reputation is not going to use GAF except for either ridicule or scorn.  Evilore comes off like a creep because he is a creep.  Anyone will look at those "rumors" and they know it's true because of who it is.  The fact that he nukes all discussion on it just crystallizes it.  No need for him to address it because people are already making the (correct) conclusions.

Naughty Dog still seems GAF-friendly. To a much larger extent than any other dev has ever been, even, in some ways. God knows why. Given the U4 Madine non-sense, on which GAF was VERY noisy about, I'm wondering if they'll just stop bothering as well, though.

For me this is another reason why i still keep my PS3.I have a lot of music CDs and my PS3 is the only system in my house (other than my PS2s) which can still play the format.

Has Sony made some deal with Spotify that doesn't allow them to make PS4s compatible with CD media?

I used to think that we could look back on stuff like Captain America punching a Communist or Nazi as being exploitative/cheap/easy/dumb, but I was seeing earlier that people are getting thirsty over wanting to see comic heroes punch Nazis again.

There was even a Wolfenstein thread with some people talking about how they're going to preorder the new Wolfenstein because some marketing team decided to use #MakeAmericaNaziFreeAgain in a tweet. :doge
I liked them imagining all the people that were going to be triggered by it and how bad they're going to react to it.

Finally, somebody has stood up to Big Nazi and made them the villains in media.

Anyway, were there to be some legal codification of life beginning at conception, wouldn't this even make things like Plan B illegal? It's like they watched The Handmaid's Tale and said, "That seems nice."

Meanwhile, back in the first line of the OP's first story:
Quote
The Department of Health and Human Services is adding language to a draft of its “strategic plan
And from the linked VICE story:
Quote
released its draft strategic plan for 2018 to 2022
Quote
The current HHS strategic plan for 2014 to 2018 says
How much of the HHS "strategic plan" for 2014 to 2018 has resulted in policy changes? Actual results? Let alone legislation via Congress? Fuck if I know because the results page HHS itself links to is no longer functional. Thankfully none of the linked news stories bother to even tell you what a HHS four-year strategic plan is, why HHS sets one or what authority it has, let alone if any in the past have actually achieved anything. Or whether it's just like most long term plans produced by corporate bureaucracies that mean literally nothing and are quickly discarded or ignored. Who cares when we can get crack reporting like this:
Quote
“There’s a lot of good stuff in there,” acknowledged Carl Schmid, deputy executive director of the AIDS Institute.

But Schmid's advocacy group is one of several expressing worries the changed emphasis could marginalize groups that already have poor health outcomes.

“It’s not that we’re against faith-based groups,” Schmid said. “We just want to make sure that these groups will not withhold condoms

Some of the currently enacted strategic plan's still upcoming goals:
Quote
Reduce Tobacco Use: By December 31, 2017, reduce the annual adult combustible tobacco consumption in the United States from 1,277 cigarette equivalents per capita to 1,127 cigarette equivalents per capita, which will represent an approximate 12 percent decrease from the 2013 baseline.
Quote
Improve Food Safety: By December 31, 2017, working with federal, state, local, tribal, and industry partners, improve preventive controls in food production facilities and reduce the incidence rate (reported cases per 100,000 population per year) of Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) infections by 8 percent.
Fucking ditch apes working with tribal partners trying to replace their wife equivalents per capita by letting religious groups withhold condoms.

and dust2 is arguably one of the better choices to do so with, considering what the original looked like, and even the CS:S version*, GO is probably already the first time it's clearly set in the streets of a city :lol

*actually there's a video of all the CS maps across each version, and many of the CS:S ones are arguably the worst looking all things considered, CS has full historic charm and Condition Zero added details everywhere even if limited by GoldSrc

I miss Jon Stewart.
I just can't believe he left. This was his year!
He's said it before and elsewhere, but in that Daily Show oral history I mentioned in the book thread and read, he expands a bit about how he almost quit in 2013. And he's never regretted it, how people come up to him saying he must wish he still had the show with Trump and...and he's like no...he was making himself miserable everyday by watching the media and politics and has mostly dropped all of it since retiring and he's started sleeping through the night again, how he doesn't feel the need to endlessly be on. That Oliver and Sam Bee are carrying the torch better than he ever could and so will Colbert in his own way with the benefit of people finally getting to see the real man they all love. (Interviews were before Colbert started his show.) That he's focused now on actual life, not what's important for the show, and that most of his regrets are his putting the show first in the past.

Wyatt Cynac was apparently his original potential heir over Trevor Noah before they had their fight over a bit Wyatt thought was racist and Wyatt brought it up on Marc Maron. Oliver was always the first choice, but Jon told him he'd be dumb to give up what HBO offered him and was actually jealous about the offer in a damn I wish I had considered that path of total flexibility when Comedy Central was bending over backwards to keep him off ABC.

Stewart and The Daily Show?

Most everyone in the book talked about being proud of their work and how it defied and then upended the media political narrative and tore down the cynical way they operate to promote a better model. Especially on the lies about Iraq.

Speaking of Stewart taking another show though, CNN under Jeff Zucker (and Zucker confirmed it in the book) offered Stewart a weekly hour show (and a boatload of money) that would have been formatted much like Last Week Tonight has ended up as, but Stewart thought it would have been unprincipled to go work for them. And Anthony Bourdain got the slot, presumably for far less money.

Should have been more clear, that the legacy parts (Oliver, Colbert, Sam Bee, Noah) have become pandering, unfunny horseshit. There was pandering during Jon's days and it increased as the show went on, but it still managed to be funny and not be so much horseshit.

Like if that group really learned anything from the Iraq war lies then you wouldn't have Samantha Bee backing the Russia narrative.
