The discord thing is just turning into the same shit that NeoGAF is (people moderating other people's opinions), and a forum run by former mods would obviously become a holier-than-thou hivemind, as well. After all, they are (at least partly) responsible for what happened at NeoGAF. Please help me brainstorm.

I used to run a phpBB based forum in the past, and while I got the exGAF.com domain several years ago to use when NeoGAF would fall, I hadn't actually set up webspace and forum software yet. I didn't expect NeoGAF to crash and burn that suddenly. So I needed something quickly and went with proboards as a placeholder last night. If like-minded people would be willing to cooperate, I'd quickly move it to dedicated webspace. I'm surprised there seems to be zero interest.
I should have prepared a way to broadcast the idea beforehand.

In 5th grade my principal had me and a friend enter his office and asked us about woodies and whether we thought they were fun.  It wasn't until years later that I realized how fucked up that moment was and I didn't want to tell people.  Somehow it would have made me feel super guilty to blow the whistle even if it would have been the right thing to do.

As bad as GAF can be, as entertaining as it can be, I often feel the people that post here obsessively end up coming off as insulated and perspective lacking as the people they are deriding. As if places like TheDonald, 4chan, almost any sports team's off-topic section, and the comment sections of every website don't exist.

GAF can be bad, and needed some serious reforms, if not have happen to it what has happened, but the internet is a big ass place and there are so many worse communities out there that it did often seem a bit humorous(in a sad way) to obsess over this one so much.


With that said, this shit is entertaining as hell right now so I will be continuing to be an obsessive tool and watch the fire.

No, but allowing the alt-right to skirt what it means to be a white supremacist is why we're even having this conversation. I agree throwing around nazi and racist everywhere devalue the term but also not calling out people who are clearly skirting that definition either willfully or unknowingly does a disservice to.

People like to call the Bore diet-VOAT, I see it thrown a lot as a way to discredit us for not taking things seriously enough. I like that this forum is the middle ground between two insane places. On the spectrum, we are the most normal. Average people sometimes wrong beliefs, they aren't perfect, and aren't held to be paragons of morality, where one misstep will lead the community to shun you and call you a literal nazi for expressing a few douchey beliefs. GAF did not operate even remotely close to reality.
