This is the best post I've read all day:

Disclaimer: I haven't read many posts today

That was awesomely on-point.

I cheered but then he had to say cuck and now I'm flaccid

Nah, in this case it's apt.

We're now contending with Nazis whom the President of the US calls "very fine people." Advocates of racial genocide like Richard Spencer are welcomed to speak on University Campuses, protected under the cover of "emergency" by state police. Dismissing the outrage expressed towards the GG types as the histrionics of overreacting social studies warriors is perilously naive. Nice to be white, I guess.

Could you frame that any more?

Can some one point me to the post that shows the Alt-Right/GG etc.. have taken over GAF?

All I'm seeing is man-babies asking for bans, talking about the new hug box and making lewd post..

Aside from that people with dissenting opinions actually speaking up for once (with out being vulgar, bigoted, rude etc..)

Are they just tossing around FUD to drive GAF into rhe ground and sell this false utopia?

What they never realized is most of what they thought were GG or Alt-Right people were just kids getting their lulz on.     It's like they haven't been around the internet from it started... saying horrible shit without consequence is pretty much what most kids find funny.     It's like when we used to crank call people back before caller ID.     We said horrible shit because that shit was funny.

Then I grew up.    Yet you know, young people still exist.    So I could either be old man yelling at clouds or just be like, fuck it.   I did the same shit 20 years ago.

People just popped a new term on trolls.

I get man, I do.   I have mad empathy for POC right now... shit looked like it was getting better in the 90's to 00's.    We got a black president and then ole' whitey got scared which led to the current down fuckstorm we got.

Still, kids are fucking stupid.    They get off on be outrageous.. and when they can do that shit without consequence they have at it.    I mean it's disgusting behavior.. but the real pieces of shit are the grown ass adults who parrot that GG/Alt-Right crap that's started off as a joke.

I mean take Jim Goad for instance.   Dude's an alt-right hero.. but he started here in Portland writing a fucking shock 'zine and palling it up with Chuck Palahniuk .   Dude is a admitted wife-beater, cheater, and piece of shit.   He got his manifesto thoughts from prison for fuck's sake.    It's strange when I think about it.. that a lot of the white nationalist alt-right shit started 20 years ago as anarchistic leaning dipshits in Portland.

He should denounce this shit, but he's a fucking narcissist who loves watching the world burn.     So they just let people roll with it.

I don't know how to fix this shit, it's not just the President.   It's a good 1/3rd of the country is fucking insane.

This ResetEra shit is kind of killing me;  why not just have open registration and then ban people?  Get this shit started, get people posting.

Everything about what they are doing is dumb; you aren't charging money your shit can be imperfect to start, but the longer you wait.. snooze you loose.

Because they're clearly out of their league. The URL still leads to a blank page three days after they have gotten it.

They either have no clue what they're doing or they're obsessed with having a perfect start where all the old OTs and threads pop up in the first 5 minutes and everybody acts like nothing has changed.

It's probably both (they're bi).

Maybe if "whitey" (love the racist undertone singling out a race to lump them with movements that have nothing in common between them from the get-go) wasn't called bad dog everyday, to check its privilege, to understand that people might want to become a gender fluid solid gaseous being, maybe they wouldn't have gone with open arms into some bullshit views. It kinda happens, you know. When it happens to a minority though, no stone is left unturned, because it sells. When you're just a regular white guy struggling with life because you might have a plethora of problems on your own, the one thing that might fucking irk you a tiny weeny bit is someone telling you that no matter how bad you have it, you're still guilty of being on top of the social chain.

some self-fucking-reflection could help you understand how dehumanizing you sound, but your brain might still be having withdrawal symptons so it's okay.

Can't wait to check Alexa in a couple of months to see how far NeoGAF will fall;  it was falling for a long time then went back up about a year ago IIRC.

It's a "ranking" not actual traffic stats though, so not sure if it's actually been making any more money.

A ton of US-based websites went back up like crazy for some reason at the exact same time.

For their sake I just hope they’re putting at least as much effort into the technical requirements of running a site of the scale they hope for as they are in trying to court the migrating discord communities. I don’t know. My reaction from the sidelines is that it seems like they are overthinking their leadership structure and desired forum culture and may be woefully underprepared for the stuff that’s actually important to launching a community, but I wish them the best of luck.

I can't really think of any successful expanding venture that involves tight limits like they seem to want to impose. Then again, they're not building a community, they're building a sect

The subtext there to me was just that we reserved the right to ban for alt usage. However, things may had just changed in between the time that you stopped being a mod and I started.

Interesting; looks like the decline before was similar too.  Must be a change in how their data collection works or a major change in China or something.
Maybe that's when Russia turned off the bots.

I'm not even joking here. Even in websites from my corporate clients their Google Analytics accounts were riddled with fake language identifiers. You'd have:
United States
Germany
France
DONALD TRUMP 2016 VOTE TODAY!

Later turned to some Russian mumbo jumbo. Whatever the Russian bots were doing it made no sense (only people who dive in Google Analytics see these things) but someone desperately wanted everyone to think with Metadata that the Russians were fucking around.

Reset is actively destroying gaf former communities already brehs.

They been coming into ppls discords full of people who don't want the Reseti, and are like,"JOIN OUR FORUM. WHO IS OUR REP." and people don't want them there, but they strong arm their way in some how. Then they start seeing that you were the "trash" of gaf (and by that I mean having your own opinions) and it turns into fucking war because you have said NO to their forum apparently.

I am reading this from at least three different people.

where the screenshots at

I asked mods/admins to let in aegis so she could tell her story but Demi said just make a pastebin and she noped after that because the reset people just pissed her off so off so much she doesn't feel comfortable sharing now.

Or realize that when someone says that they are referring to the type of white people that fear minorities are taking over.

Obviously better language could be used "certain white people", but come on... is it not obvious what people are referring too?

Not even white, i'm a mixture of several regions. Anyhow, when I say all that is because i've had some rough years. Several internal family affairs that include having my grandma losing her mind completely to dementia and more stuff. You see, those are conditions that bear way more consequences in your day by day than any color of the skin you might have. Because yes, it is true that people discriminate, but it can happen both ways, which means you can get opportunities based on race too. It's far too subjective to make huge lumps of stereotypical generalisation.

Certain white people which may or may not include "uncle toms" and "white latinos" to depreciate their opinion. Is it not obvious that people should, as a rule of thumb, not be discriminated against as they're just individuals facing hardships and not one entity or cult that ostracizes everyone else?

Then I grew up.    Yet you know, young people still exist.    So I could either be old man yelling at clouds or just be like, fuck it.   I did the same shit 20 years ago.

 :idont

People just popped a new term on trolls.

It was never better, but there was enough of a buffer between what was true and what we convinced ourselves of the reality we interpreted. With social media democratization of information, and obliteration of the borders that once limited unfettered communication, the spread of this rot has only been accelerated. And I while you may be right, that it's only 1/3 of the country that truly buys into this insanity, the other 2/3 - the centrists, moderates, and liberals - are complicit in their apathy.

Or realize that when someone says that they are referring to the type of white people that fear minorities are taking over.

Obviously better language could be used "certain white people", but come on... is it not obvious what people are referring too?

The thing is if you say "Hey, their is XXX problem in your (insert minorty) community"
The response is people from that community is that they are all being lumped together.

But, people actively lump all whites together.

So you stepped down too right Steve? Did the entire mod team step down or is there anyone left?
I doubt you wanna be modding any gaming communities anymore.
I never understood why anyone would want to do that for free anyway.
Back in high school/college I reviewed games and posted news on a game site. I wasn't paid but I got free review games, went to some press events and made some friends.
It's actually productive work in a way and it improves your writing/design/content skills.

Unless you want to practice running a prison camp or weed through bullshit there's no redeeming quality in modding.
Especially when strict rules need to be applied on a community of thousands of posters.

The whole 'no alts allowed' thing was really stupid, what with a couple people with them (Crushed/Aeana) later became mods after making alts.

The subtext there to me was just that we reserved the right to ban for alt usage. However, things may had just changed in between the time that you stopped being a mod and I started.

It was kind of the problem, wasn't it ?

Haha. Well, I mean I think we’re just kind of getting into the philosophical territory of whether you think we had shitty judgment or not. And if you did think that, then sorry. Honestly. As time went on I got extremely reticent about banning people. And it’s not really necessarily that internal measurements as to what determined good and bad posting shifted, it’s just that I really didn’t take any pleasure from depriving people from participating at a message board they wanted to be at. I’m sure in my rookie days when the banhammer was a new toy in my arsenal I may have issued some questionable to downright bad bans. If anyone here was one of them, my bad. You have my sincerest apologies. Except for benji.

Anyway I got off track there. Just assume for a second we had good judgment. The alt rule made sense. If you were banned for a good reason before, you seemed to be up to the same old stuff again (which is why we’d alt check in the first place), it makes perfect sense to me to just go straight to perming because that was already the person’s ban length.

After discussions among the staff and with the community we have decided that we want ResetEra to be a truly fresh start. We'd like to look to the future and leave any baggage behind. Towards that end we ask you not to post any threads about NeoGAF or its owner and avoid linking to the site. This is in no way an attempt to shut down free discussion, but instead a way to avoid unnecessary complications with other parties. If you must, there are other ways and venues to express yourselves but please get it out of your system before coming to ResetEra. We have a great opportunity here to build something new with a blank slate. Let's press reset!

Congrats guys, this thread will never be redundant  :-*

I doubt you wanna be modding any gaming communities anymore.

Most people stepped down. I’m not listing them out or anything because those sticking behind aren’t publicly mods anymore so I don’t want to put them in the spotlight or anything. For that matter anyone I think that stayed on may have stepped down in the interim and I just don’t know it.

And no, I’m not modding anywhere else. I don’t expect to get any calls from any other sites but even if I did it’s dumb to entertain the thought. Even if I thought I had a knack for it — and I’m sure many people here would laugh heartily at that notion — I honestly don’t have the time for this shit anymore.
