That's the thing about nostalgia. It's often best left in the past.

I can't play the VC of Pokemon Blue these days, it's way too slow. Need a 1.5x mode or something like emus have.

It cracked me up because it reminded me of other (younger) family members with the same reaction. Kinda like those YT videos where kids mess around with manual typewriters.

Red & Blue are waaaay too slow for me too. Played Blue on release in 98(?) and promptly leveled up the first magikarp I found to that dragon thing. It's funny how much more tolerable grinding was back then.

Haha yeah. Without the internet it was pretty easy to excuse the slowness.

Nowadays I'd have probably chucked it after the first gym and logged onto LoL or Minecraft or some shit.

I was excited when I found a cib copy in perfect condition at some obscure gaming store in downtown Newark. Almost made the trip there worth it

I was probably as big into pokemon as anyone when it first came out, so I probably have the most time spend on GB/GBC with RBY/GS for any overall nintendo machine. Think I've had every handheld iteration at some point.

Otherwise I had 2 NES hand-me-downs, a N64, and a Wii. N64 got most of the playtime of those that I remember with Mario 64 being a family favorite. Used to have a picture of my little brother playing it at like 18 months lulz.

Since I seem to get every other console,  guess I should pick up a switch at some point.

DS was a proper fucking handheld for sure. For one, GBA built right in, okay nice, and 8 player multi from SINGLE CARTS? That was insane.

That little, low-resolution, low contrast screen was just so, so unusable though. Did you mod yours with lights or something? Or did you get one of those "gummy" overhead LED lights that plugged into the port?

That early PA comic where the guy starts out with a desk lamp and a GBA, then a couple tall lamps behind him, then full stadium lighting is still probably their best one.

I stood by the window when I rode the Keihin-Tohoku into town. At night I'd use the gummy light.
