Has anyone tried filling their cryptocurrency tax trades yet? I've got an 8949 form from https://cointracking.info but the two free tax providers I tried (HR Block and Credit Karma) don't appear to accept the 8949 form and instead want you to manually input all the trades and then they'll build the 8949 form from that. Anyone know of a tax software that automatically imports the 8949 form? Otherwise it's going to be a pain entering in all my trades (100 ish) manually.

Not yet. I have thousands if not hundreds of thousands of trades...

I have no idea how I'm going to file all of those.

Robinhood is adding crypto trading to it's platform in Feburary with no fees. They're starting with BTC and ETH and you will be able to instantly transfer up to $1000 from a bank account at a time. If it's as good as it sounds, I probably won't be using coinbase anymore.

Everything I see about BitConnect reminds me of when I worked at an agency that had an MLM client. It's the exact same bullshit, commissioning music videos and shit, pulling Carlos up on stage to brag about how much money he was making and dissuade criticism from your significant others.

Didn't know they made music videos too but yeah the now infamous event was straight get rich quick pyramid scheme MLM pep talk playbook.

Some of the fallout and videos about BitConnect fall has been interesting, notably how some YouTube influencers were easily compromised by known swindlers (one of whom allegedly bragged on Facebook he got paid big EZ money for sending photos of the other, an attractive woman, to Nigerians so they could run catfish scams !).

Crypto is a gift from heaven for conmen, techno babble to convince the easily persuaded, make the impossible sound plausible and the allure of big quick profits for a crowd too impatient to invest money in more traditional avenues with smaller margins (no offense to anyone here meant).

I was locked into a bunch of alts and didn't sell at their recent peaks because silly me thought they would be able to fight against BTC's influence.

Also, this is right around the time Cyrptoverter's alt signals went from runaway winners to suck-ass losers due to the BTC bear market.

edit: I should've sold all my Burst and Siacoin when I had the chance and put them into better alts.

edit2: Also, another thing that's annoying is even if I sold those alts at their peaks they would've ended up back into BTC because BTC trading pairs are what I'm the most comfortable with. Plus, all the Tether FUD was making me not want to put my satoshi gains into it to maintain my USD value for fear that it would all vanish over night.

edit3: another thing, it doesn't help that I work full-time and have to maintain a normal sleep schedule. So I can't be sitting at my computer looking at charts all day making sure I'm buying every dip and selling every peak.

Hell, I'm usually asleep when most of the action is going on.

Can anyone here actually explain how the fuck Tether works regarding the 1:1 investment and maintaining parity with USD (relatively)? There's no actual way to convert your Tether to USD (outside of a select few) with Tether LTD, but i still use it acknowledging it feels very shady, but it's too handy not to fuck with. Interested in what happens when (inevitably it seems) faith is lost in it.

I'm way past that point now. I should've done that back when I was hovering at $40K. Selling near the bottom would be the cowards way out.

And I can't really sell into fiat so easily from bittrex (all it has is USDT/Tether which is the controversial crypto that's pinned to the value of the US dollar). I would have to transfer it back to coinbase via litecoin, due to it have the fastest transaction speeds, and hope litecoin doesn't dump too fast. Also, I could use ETH (its transaction speed is a lot slower though) but I don't like buying into coins that have recently pumped for fear that'll dump soon.

I'm holding out for February 16th which is the Chinese New Year for 2018. That's usually the holiday when things start to turn around in crypto.

It's my hope that the following doesn't come off as too officious and that you'll read it with an open mind:
1. Hubris in not selling on a downward trajectory is just the irrational belief that it will be higher if you just hold out. You have no way of knowing that.
2. The illiquidity of an asset means you should act less recklessly with it, not more.
3. The phrase pumping and dumping comes from a fairly specific market manipulation tactic. Whenever I hear that a share price is being pumped, I am usually skeptical that there is really someone on the other end pumping it up and I usually consider it just a paranoid narration of any benign but random fluctuations.
4) Believing that anything will happen around Chinese New Year is really magical thinking.
You should get out now while the people still holding out in the bubble are supporting the price up. I want to see you roll around in those mad gains. Being able to participate in a bubble is usually a once in a lifetime opportunity for people, and most of them don't even profit.

Usually I would agree with 3, but I think crypto is a special case where the market cap, illiquidity, and asset concentration might sometimes actually be affected by intentional manipulation. Especially the alt coins.

people attributing actual human values like courage to a market as broken and manipulated as crypto are the real marks. it's like playing russian roulette with a 20 something distinguished mentally-challenged fellow from 4chan who gets to choose whether to put a few more bullets in the chamber on your turn because he sat down first.
