As said before, you're a fucking super weird nerd if you defend Quiet.

I might throw in distinguished mentally-challenged if you think previous MGS perviness is comparable.

Come the fuck on Cindi.

In MGS4 you had the Beauty and Beast crew, who wore skintight suits that were that way only because Kojima literally couldn't make them naked and pass ratings muster.  If you tranq'ed them to death you would go into a weird alternate dimension with them where they would walk at Snake, slowly, and if they caught him, their attack was to literally HUMP HIM TO DEATH, camel toe and all. Oh, and the only way to slow them down was to take sexy photos of them, wherein they would stop their attempts at murder and pose for the camera. Because... no reason was ever given. In that game you had Naomi who not only got her character destroyed but spend the ENITRE game with her tits in the air with the camera constantly focusing on them. Or there could of course be Rose whose claim to fame in the game is that you can jiggle her boobs with the Dual Shock 3 during conversations.

Kojima has always been a perv. You make peace with that shit or you don't. It may not show up in EVERY game that he does, but that's who he is. This is the man whose idea for the boss was that she ran around at all times with one of her boobs out, and would have a snake tatoo that would I shit you not, animate as her breasts bounced.

As I said, compared to his previous work, QUIET AIN'T SHIT!

No.

I feel it comes from a place of presumptuousness that we, the audience, are dumb and are in need of the author's help for true understanding. Unless you're benji-tier and someone I know I can blindly trust with my heart and soul, I expect a dash of humility in my thread titles.

You don't need to have played the previous MGS games. It has immensely enjoyable gameplay mechanics and the first half-ish of The Phantom Pain is the better part, just don't be surprised if mid-way through you find it lack-luster. If you avoid much of the development grind for the highest tier weapons and just play it for as long as it feels interesting then I'd say it's worth experiencing. Some would say Ground Zeroes is the shorter and sweeter title of the two, though I probably liked TPP more despite its flaws.

Let's take this statement to be true. Then...

... What's wrong with that? As previously stated, I'm not a centrist on every issue. But what is most important of all, I make choices based on my own independent thinking and belief system. I'm generally wary of extremes because I've anecdotally seen what it does to people, and have read in history books what it can do to societies. (For example, communism is what I would personally consider to be an extreme form of economics/government, and plenty of examples in the 20th century show that it is an extreme that can cause societies to go on a quick path towards failure. But I digress.)

Anyway, before this is seen as a tangent or worse, a derail, it is an important conversation for me in terms of this thread's topic.

What has happened before is that, for socially progressive topics where there's a large agreement, the politically right side is seen as bad. (In this case, I agree). But I've seen people get called all sorts of nasty names and labels -- "misogynist", "pervert" (for those that like the anime stuff, which I very much don't), "Nazi", "alt right", etc, and those labels are, in the most passionate cases, usually accompanied with unflattering adjective(s). (So, for example, someone can't just be "alt right"... They could be, in the words of the accuser(s), "fucking alt right scum.") And if that happens, is the conversation really civil? At that point, are the progressives any better than the alt right/Gamergater people they're accusing? In my honest view: NO. And it's something that sometimes stops ME in my personal tracks of taking progressive arguments seriously (as in, fully embracing them in an actionable manner), which is a pity given that there are legitimate grievances, as detailed in the OP.

Given that I personally find the position on the right disagreeable in this case, that leaves two sides (ish): the progressive side, and for me personally, the centrist view. But it has happened before, and we're seeing it develop in this very thread -- to some, centrism is NOT good. It's "cowardly."

To me, that means I either "get in line" with the progressive view, or, as it almost always happens, I don't even state my point of view. While I think (and hope) I can add to civil discourse an given social issues of importance, I absolutely refuse to be (what I feel is) coerced into any given point of view.

This is only my personal stance, reflective of my own personal experience, and is in no way: (1) scientific or authoritative; (2) meant to be inflammatory; (3) or incite any ill feelings. I'm just voicing out where I'm coming from on these kinds of discussions.

To anyone who does, thanks for reading.
Quote
Since being at the center is sometimes about balance, I'll put it in the context of this very conversation. Some of my own personal beliefs:

1. Positively perceived characters/role models such as Aloy can coexist with the "bikini babes" from Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball. In all fairness, I don't think I've seen a single person in this thread arguing to the contrary.

2. We need to strike a balance between the open criticism of a problem, but certainly celebrate when those problems are addressed (and in some cases, resolved). As of this point, I don't personally feel that there is a balance. If you see the larger discussion threads (can only speak to this forum and the previous one), there is a disproportionate amount of "THERE IS A PROBLEM!" as opposed to "Yippee! Here is a thread to celebrate positive women and minority characters!" If such a thread exists, apologies for having missed it. But it does beg the question, though: how many times are such threads created? How many pages do they go on for? I think criticism, combined with celebration, can send the right message to developers and members of the community.

3. Kind of related to the point above, but my perception (I can't speak for others) is that there is a barrage of just negative coverage, which does make it seem, like, YES, people are "looking for problems." (I've read and re read that portion of the OP several times now. I still respectfully disagree with the OP.) Sorry to pile on this particular example, but the Lara Croft "death fetishism" -- I mean, for a quick and dirty example...look at my avatar! Between RE2 and RE4 alone, that guy has died many, many times in some unquestionably graphic, gruesome, and violent ways. Should we change the ways Lara dies just because she's a woman? In my humble opinion: absolutely NOT! If anything, that sends the wrong message, which leads to my last point for now...

4. I very, very, very much want better representation in video games. I don't see how anyone could lose by doing it. However, agitating for such inclusion in this particular medium is tricky. I'm one of those in the camp of "most videogame writers still struggle with writing believable, relatable, well made characters." And it's got NOTHING to due with race/ethnicity/religion/gender/sexual orientation/etc. There is a large and tragic number of white males in video games that are written badly in bad stories. These same writers, when pressed to include women/POC/etc, have no clue what to do, and end up doing what I believe is more damage than good. Immediately off the top of my head in one second, I can think of Jonah from Tomb Raider 2013: he could not be an alluring individual with his own struggles, his individualized thoughts, etc: NO, he had to be the heavyset, "superstitious" Pacific Islander character. Cringe. And that's just Jonah, who I actually think is one of the better secondary characters in that game! Now, this doesn't mean that progress and inclusion should stop in its tracks until videogame character/story writers "get their act together." But just know that if you press for such inclusion, you're gonna get some hits, but potentially lots of misses.

Anyway, as always, thanks for reading.
Someone needs to get this guy acquainted with a favorite theory of one Mr. Glenn Beck and then years later NeoGAF.com the forum that never existed in the before times, the Overton window.

In short, the centrist would approach a question like this in the style of a judge. Consider the current legal framework and then try to apply objective principles. Where they conflict (as is inevitable), try to find a moderate position.

I just don't understand why this one game gets singled out when there's such a large ammount of stuff falling into the same trap. The low hanging fruit thing also makes the critique sound disingenuous and it seems like it's more about joining the group that's shitting on the game than actually having something to say.

Y'know, I don't really like clowns. They creep me the fuck out. But I don't have a problem with clown lovers. I don't have a problem with circuses, clown clubs, video games or movies about clowns, clown focused magazines with clown center folds. Those things are clearly marked as products aimed at the clown audience, for clown lovers. If you like yourself some clown action, it's easy to walk into a store and grab your product, and it's easy for me to say hell naw and stay the fuck away from it. But imagine a world...where 80% to 90% or some other way too high a number of media...had clowns in it.

Imagine looking through games at your preferred game retailer and a game figuratively speaks to you – Hey! you like sci-fi?

Yeah I do.

- You like explorin' expansive alien landscapes of eye melting beauty?

You bet!

- You like driving around giantass transforming mechs?

Hell yeah!

- Then this game is pertinent to your interests!

So you get home with your latest purchase and everything seems great then first boss and fucking clown out of no where. Why is this boss a clown?! This game has shit to do with clowns. It's just sorta' there so whatever you send it packing and the game goes back to normal...until you meet the alien species populated entirely by mimes. Why are they mimes? It doesn't make any god damn sense but there they are. Then there's the clown themed costumes and that random clown in a cut scene that ruins the mood and drags you out of the game's immersion cause you can't stop staring at its giant jiggling balloons, and you aren't even into clowns but it's just so fucking distracting!

So fuck this game, play another. So you're blazing a trail of death and destruction through some bald guy shooter, taking out the terroristnazicommies when the elite badguy squad shows up and it's clowns. They come at you juggling their balls and making faces and the camera can't seem to stay out of their back pockets, making sure you get a real good close up of their polka dots and squeaky noses and why the fuck are they clowns? What do they add to this game? Who bought this game for the clowns? There are so many better choices for clown lovers that focus on clowning. Nobody bought this for the off chance of clowns yet here they are.

So fuck that game too but as you continue your search you steadily get this sinking suspicion that you can't escape. Games about clowns aimed at the clown loving audience aren't enough. Clowns are everywhere. Even those games you think are for you still dedicate a chunk of their content to the clown fandom. Doesn't matter if the game isn't really aimed at that audience, that audience might look in and so they must be pandered to. Doesn't matter if the clowns fit the theme, if they're out of place, the clowntaku are the ones that count most so fuck everybody else.

This isn't really about clowns.

I like how you're supposed to replace "clowns" with "sexualized women," but if you go a step further and just replace it with "women" it becomes SUPER MISOGYNISTIC.

Or how if you replace it with "gays" it also captures the exact sentiment homophobes use constantly.  "I don't mind people being gay, I just don't want it shoved in my face all the time!"

Is my interpretation of what "moe" means correct?

Moe:  anime that shows little girls in dresses and often revealing their panties that obviously exists to perv out on that is instead labeled as "cute" so people can pretend they aren't pedos.

No.

Some people consider the  Kaiji anime Moe but there is no female characters on it.

I feel like you guys are full of shit and are kind of proving my point.

True or false: most "moe" anime is about little girls.

That is not untrue but is not the correct definition.

Same guy who posted about wishing Ben would die or something like that in their Discord channel.  Either an F-grade troll account or an S-rank fuckboy.  In the end, what's the difference?

Well I'm being slightly facetious; I'm suggesting the word is used as a sort of cop-out to not admitting you are just a pedo.

Oh I love these Moe anime; she's so cute and adorable and I really have great totally consensual affection for this little girl in a dress drawing!

I don't think you can use the word consensual to describe a relationship with a fictional character by default.
