Hell you didn't need to be "insane" to see it. Just look at the south (or Rust-belt states) that aren't cities. I saw plenty of Trump stickers up in NY, along with outside of the college town I live in around here. There was a general dislike of Clinton.

People will always abuse the system. That's why you design a system that accounts for that problem.

There are flaws in a capitalist democracy, but it works better than what we've ever had. You can't keep saying "if we just tweak it this time, it will turn out well." You have to account for human nature in your system, not fight against it.

I’ve yet to see any evidence of this claim being remotely true even though I have seen it repeated by right-wingers repeatedly. Gen-Z is 2000-2018, so this is the year they’ll come of voting age.
