It's worth thinking about and caring about how produced images can impact people, but I advise not just having a feeling about that and understanding what is going on. All the mistakes come from not bothering to understand.
Leadbelly brought up male disposability, which not talked about nearly as much as female body image. There is rising rate of male suicide currently. It's been going up for at least the past 9-10 years In modern, developed countries, white male suicides outpace other groups. Seventy percent of suicides in these countries were white men. Of course, male suicides are 3.5x times more common than female suicides. Middle aged men suicides are increasing as well.
So those stats are pretty scary. I wouldn't blame He-Man for them and that's sort of my point. Something like that needs careful, documented and thorough understanding. Removing GI Joe toys are not an answer.
