I think the old discussions of game sites being a joke and the GG discussion have one important difference: The past topics were about major media company sites like Gamespot and IGN. The recent discussion aimed at BS in the "indie sites" and their licentiousness nature. This highlights the difference between the two: Old big sites weren't filled with self-important posers who saw game writing as a legit srsbsns thing. The indie site kids went off the deep end when questioned and attacked their own audience with fury, while the old standard crew just shrugged and said "fuck it, you're still clicking anyways."
