Kids don't really understand the effect of things like this;  it's why we protect them.

There's a middle ground between what we do to teenage girls in these situations (treat them like their lives are ruined, which conditions them to believe it) and what we do to teenge boys (hi-five them, teaching them to ignore anything about the situation.)   But the offenders need to be punished pretty harshly IMO all around.

In the early 00s, labels and stations got big into cross-over play and what exists on radio and billboard charts is the bland monstrosity that trend produced. Top rock albums are not rock music. Country sounds like pop, rock and hip hop. Hip hop stations are playing pop. It's all fucking pop music.

I've always been curious about it, so I finally made an impulse decision and drove behind a Winners.

Found some decent clothes, including an awesome Roots Leafs jersey/hoodie. Went to a few more places. Found a bunch of unused hair straighteners, blow dryers, curlers etc. They cut the cord with scissors, but that's a super quick solder job. Today I found some decent food, double sealed seaweed snacks, yogurt, crackers, protein shakes.

I think once you get over the fake shame about dumpster diving, it can be a great resource. So much is wasted in the western world, why not do something good for the planet while saving money too.

Can't say this is something I'd want to do, but taking out food including dairy products?

So much perfectly good food gets thrown away, it's sad to see it go waste. I've found box after box of perfectly good granola bars, loaves of bread still days away from expiring, perfectly fine produce, and countless other finds. I did it to survive when I was struggling to get by.

One good tip, for those not too afraid to get their hands dirty, is to scout out the dumpsters and trash around college neighborhoods at the end of the school year. Tons of furniture and other neat things get tossed, I once even scored a plasma HDTV that worked great.
