Man same here.  That's not a complaint I hear often about FF10 but that pissed me off after the nice world maps I was used to.  Walk north for 50 hours and then hooray you have an airship but there's nowhere left to go.

Kinda glad I skipped Gen 5 if it was like that.  One of the things I've always liked about the maps were the loops and significant side paths.

XY was a revolution in terms of features and Sun/Moon were a step back in several ways.  But XY was completely awful on the story front - a big group of shitty one-note friends you battle ad-nauseum but everyone is always nice and positive and your "rival" is just like 

Sun/Moon had a much better story even if not a return to the old asshole rivals, which is pretty much a lost cause at this point.

I skipped from RB to Diamond so that was a big shellshock when I realized the rivals became toothless.  However I also played the remake of Ruby and thought it was the best out of all the games, and that was the start of the friendly rivals.  Really liked the drawn out threat at the end which other games had mostly dropped the ball on.

While I know you're joking, when GAF blew up late last year, it was a wakeup call for me.  While I enjoy online communities, the fact that posters were referred to as refugees and orphans looking for a home was something that got me thinking.  Are people, including myself, that involved in text only community that much? This can't be right?

Then I looked at all the years I wasted on GAF. It was basically for nothing.  And now with Old GAF and now ERA taking its place, it's mostly just people arguing online for hours, days, weeks, and years.  After a while, you need to ask yourself, is this what I want to spend my life doing?  I'm glad the blowup happened looking back.  Even though I wasn't a prolific poster on OldGAF, I mostly lurked.  But I'm reading and actually playing games way more these days at least.

However at some point a part of the community got stuck up on the idea that what they said on a message board mattered and more and more media started using NeoGAF as their sole source of information.
At the same time the mods (mostly Amir0x and Bishoptl) hammered away at popular members until I along with most of the old guard were banned late 2010 or 2011 I think. Especially after we started baiting the blogs who were monitoring GAF for news 24/7.

I returned to The Bore after having been exclusively on Twitter first. I had scooped around opa ages but never signed up, then just before NeoGAF imploded I discovered that all the cool people had moved here by coincidence.

Next up, I joined ResetEra because it was hyped up to be the new 'NeoGAF' which I remembered as a fun place to post. I was hoping that they would purge their ranks of the lunatics and return to being a fun forum again.
At first they pretended this was the case. I got away with quite a bit of shitposting I must say. I was testing the boundaries and felt comfortable doing so. But soon the REEEEE community asked the mods to take action against posters such as myself who were not true believers of Karl Marx and/or wouldn't fuck transgenders or were jokers in general. It was also never fun to post there. Whenever I posted something I got dog piled.
