I finally filled out my ballot. Went straight D down the line. First time I've done that in a while. Also voted yes on one issue near and dear to my heart. Went no on just about everything else. Mailing it off tomorrow. Now I just have to wait until Nov.
As an aside, I am super bummed. I took Nov 7 off of work but had to cancel because of visitors at my location that I need to entertain for a week. I'm hoping I skirt out the night of the 6th and maybe come in late that morning.

I hate that there's no such thing as a political season anymore. Political ads have been airing daily since election night in 2016 :rage :rage :rage :stahp
it's really just a massive grift by political consultants and a dependent media class and their enablers

we've known for some time that ad saturation doesn't even turn out your own voters, i wouldn't be surprised if its main effect was to turn off the leaners/independents from even bothering to pay attention closely, even late or at once considered "key" moments in campaigns (debates, conventions, etc.) but i don't really keep up to date on that wing of the field

i also wouldn't be surprised if incessant polling reporting also has negative "unanticipated" effects, especially among potentially key cleavages

plus campaigns do all their own polling anyway

Was going to post some lowlights from a House Democratic candidate's flyer I just saw but they were literally a registered Republican for years so it's not fair to pick on all the ink dedicated to small business, family, lowering prescription drug costs, and common sense solutions to problems.

It does say the candidate believes in basic decency though so they are clearly a quick study in Democrat parlance.

Back when I was still a masshole come senate reelection time Scott Brown had endless fucking ads on both radio and television. I voted for Warren partially just so I wouldn't be plagued by all his goddamn ads again in six years. :punch

I forget what the actual term is now, but it's a thing that people who do regular survey research do refer to, someone who is clearly just going to be noise so you drop the survey so as to not have to record them rather than continue with it. (Though usually you just pretend continue the poll rather than hanging up. :lol Maybe it was seriously recorded so they had to "drop" the call to do this.)

The one time I've ever been polled, it was some conservative group doing a pushpoll against Obama for some reason and some poor kid who was getting his dreams about politics crushed, and I was answering him truthfully on all these policy questions, many of which had to do with immigration, so I was all over the place from his POV, and then at the end it was like who do you plan to vote for President in 2012 and I said I don't vote. And the guy actually went "wait, what?" and said something along the lines of how "they didn't really tell me what to put on some of these responses I'm getting, especially on health care" and so I said "do you have Ron Paul on there?" and he said "yeah sorta, we've been writing it in quite a bit after the first day" and I said "just do that, it's close enough for what they'll want." And he thanked me for helping him with the poll. :paul

A better example of trying to be a benji probably. My parents get all kinds of push polls in the mail from all these groups endlessly. (Sometimes from the same exact group four times in a single week!) If their names weren't on it, I'd gather them up and fill them out in totally contradictory and incoherent ways and send them back just as punishment.

It was a municipal candidate poll and I don't learn about my city candidates until a day or two before the election. Answering "I have no idea" to every head to head in conjunction with the fact that none of them had cac names and my pollster was clearly not from the southwest likely brought us to our abrupt end.

Volunteered for Beto campaign tonight. I’m getting antsy as Election Day approaches. Like foot tapping antsy. I don’t think he’s going to win. But I’m giving my all and not just my vote. I’ve had to talk to fellow pro-gun people and reach out as to why I think it’s a good idea to vote Beto despite his stance on them. It’s been really hard trying to convince some Texans to vote for him but I think I’ve developed a compelling argument. Beto talking about guns this close to election doesn’t help me though. More than likely it goes to Cruz.

Turned in my mail-in ballot directly to the registrar of voters. Kind of meaningless in California of course but hey, there's a (tiny) chance Feinstein might get tossed out. I expect it'll be House and governorships mostly going to Democrats but Senate staying Republican, in which case we'll have to hear the stupidity of everyone saying it's a split vote and have to continue to pray that RBG doesn't drop dead in the next couple of years.

The wait to 2020 is going to feel even worse I think.

Theres also something comforting about a strange old person at the polling station looking you in the eyes and genuinely thanking you for voting.
