The update dropped today and this is how the game should've launched.

Anyone playing this?

This is what the initial launch should've been from what I'm hearing, but they're doing a season pass even after pissing everyone off so it's amazingly still not a finished game. :doge

Yup, tempted to re-buy the game but still more DLC characters turns me off as well. I'm also annoyed there's no discount for people that already bought SFV. If it was $20 instead of $40 I'd buy it.

No upgrade option for standard SFV owners? That's some shit. :lol

Essentially it's because all of the base features are free upgrades to the normal SFV anyhow and the only difference is all the DLC characters from the first two seasons which they don't want to give you any cheaper than they currently are. Actually and I think AE comes with a bunch of the older paid costumes too. So you get S1 pass of character ($10) + S2 pass of characters ($20) + maybe $10-20 worth of costumes for $40 total so no discount for existing owners.

Still should be a discount though for good will.

Actually googling a bit, maybe it doesn't come with any additional costumes? So you still have to pay for all the costumes since launch or save up fight money? Seems kinda odd that AE wouldn't at least have the costumes released up to that point included. Kinda feels like AE isn't supposed to be a "Complete edition" kind of release, just like the next edition and complete edition will maybe be someday.

Lots of misinformation here.

  • Arcade Edition is a free upgrade for all SFV owners.
  • If you buy the retail Arcade Edition, you're just getting SFV plus character passes 1 and 2.
  • You don't have to buy anything and can instead earn and use in-game currency to get characters, costumes, stages, and the like.
  • You can get a shitload of in-game currency just from doing the story modes (and can also skip through all the cut scenes and it quickly)
  • There are now extra battle challenges that cost 1000 FM to participate in.
  • You can also choose to buy content a la cart or buy a pass to get everything at a discount.
  • We've gone over all of this in the fighting game thread. :P

There were some extra costume bonuses for pre-ordering AE, but I don't know if you can get them if you buy it now.  If you have SFV already, there is no reason to buy AE- just buy character passes 1 and 2 if you want them...it's cheaper that way.

IMO Capcom should make a free-to-play version of the game and rotate the free playable characters monthly like some other games do.  Would make a lot of sense for the "games as service" model they are using for content.

They did nerf the amount of fight money you get from single player stuff, but if you do it all you still get enough to buy four characters (down from six pre-AE). This assumes you are starting from nothing and haven't played the single player at all of course.

Have you tried the extra battle challenge yet?  You have to fight Shin Akuma and he is fucking BRUTAL.  Got demolished...he does insane damage.  I want that Viewtiful Joe costume for Rashid.  :'(

I probably will give it a shot on PS4. I'm saving my FM on PC to buy characters. I don't have any interest in Rashid but that costume is pretty cool

Hmm...take the "basic boss fight" approach?  OK.

Timed jump-ins (he fireballs constantly). Keep it simple: jump in, damage, block, repeat (don't get too greedy / flashy for damage - he has odd properties and will punish things you don't expect...plus it's almost like optimal combos piss him off 😂). Don’t get too near him. He will do instant demon. Block a lot, keep your space. Await the fireballs. Keep your cool. Be patient. Might take a few goes.

I don't use Rashid either, but I need that costume.  Same with the Star Gladiator June costume for Chun whenever that pops up.

:lawd

They also released an Ingrid costume for Karin on Tuesday with AE, but that was just regular DLC.

I used Cammy and totally abused the V-skill, beat him in 28 seconds after many many tries and it crashed my game. Luckily I still got the reward for winning, but I was raging pissed before I was able to confirm that my victory was counted.

Thanks, I should pop in the disc again and try out the new stuff with the base characters. Don't really feeling like spending the $$$ for the DLC cast at this point (or grinding FM either), but will try out the new modes with the original cast and see if it's more fun now.

I hate grinding too, but the story stuff is quick and super-easy (and you can skip through everything so it doesn't take long).  It only felt a little tedious finishing up all the individual character stories, but that was only because the game connects to the server for a second to upload your newly-earned fight money every time.

Tried out AE, haven't really played since launch. Had like 176k fight money from the 1-2 fight story modes of the original characters. Tried the new arcade mode, it's alright but loading on PS4 still kinda drags it. The new V-trigger stuff is cool. Game still looks visually amazing. Sakura has really good graphics, especially her close range super. Did Sakura's story mode and get like 4-10k fight money. Messed around with trials a bit and it's nice they are there. Training mode is pretty good.

Looked into all the stuff you can buy and I don't get it. Like the PSN store only shows:

S1 character pass
S2 character pass
S3 character pass
Battle Costume 1 set
Swimsuit Costume set

for sale. But like there's a lot of other costumes apparently? And there's no way to get them? They don't show fight money and they don't exist on the PSN store. Also for stages, there's no way to get them besides grinding 70k fight money each? There's so many more stages now. For some reason I would have thought the Season passes would have included the new characters AND new stages.

I picked up the S1 character pass since it was only $10 thinking maybe I could get enough FM from my 176k + S1 characters to buy the S2 characters with FM and save $20. But then still missing the stages...

I don't get why clearing each arcade mode with each character doesn't give FM. Seems dumb.

Anyhow, next time I have a chance to play local fighting games (like 3 times a year) I'll probably grab the rest of the cast and it'll be fun. Don't really have much interest in the single player modes offered.

The strict timing on the later trials are so frustrating to me. Are you guys able to pull them off without having to constantly try them over and over? In actual matches, do you ever actually use any of the difficult combos from the trials?

Bebpo, how did you miss the SHOP option on the main menu?   :P

That's where everything is.  Again...you can buy almost everything with FM or real money.  IIRC some colors are FM only.

........

I was talking about the SHOP option. Under shop there's a lot of stuff that you can't buy. Can't buy with FM and if you click on it you get "this item is not available on the PSN store currently". Also I don't see any way to buy stages outside the 70k fight money per stage (which is a fucking lot of FM for a stage, almost costs as much as a character).

I can't do trials in SFIV or SFV. I'm fine with trials in like every other fighter but the timing of "links" in SFIV-SFV is just something I've never been able to nail once you get past the basics.

Those combos aren't optimal. Don't sweat it. No one uses combos from trials. They're shit.

Can you buy characters individually without fight money? Cant figure it out.
